    Hey everybody! Happy Holidays:)

I don't know if you guys noticed but the Tom Tom U.S.A Navigation App is on SALE for $49.99! (NOT $99.99, till Dec 28th) I have $11 dollars on a itunes gift card credit, so the app will cost me around $39 bucks! anyways, the problem is that I have a 1st generation ipod touch, and I am aware that if I want the app to work well, I must buy the Tom, Tom car kit for $99!, however I was wondering if their are any of you guys that have tried this and have wasted some $200 dollars on this, and liked it? I really want to buy the Tom, Tom app since it will cost me $39 bucks, but i'm not sure if it will work well, because i'm hearing a lot of NEGATIVE feedback from people who bought the app! I also want to buy the car kit! but I first want to know If the app is okay, and if the GPS car kit is okay too. :D

    Any opinions?

Get it while you get it at that price! I'm dropping verizon and getting my own iphone. So i'll get it then. 7 months to go!

Good Point. I don't have an iphone, nor do I have plans to obtain one in 2010. I already have a blackberry w/ unlimited everything, except data!

but umma use my ipod touch as a PDA and possibly a GPS. ;)

but i still wonder if the $99 tom tom car kit is worth it?

since you can use the tom, tom app w/ wi-fi

So wait a sec, how do you get GPS for the Ipod touch? Is there some sort of add-on?

If having one device do everything appeals to you, then your plan sounds good. But don't forget that you can get a standalone TomTom unit for less than the total cost of the app (even on sale) and car kit, so the single-device strategy would have to really appeal to you.

I have no experience with the TomTom iPod app, but I personally like having the iPod and GPS as separate systems so I can do stuff on the iPod (change music, look up phone numbers/addresses, play games if someone else is driving, etc.) and still keep the GPS in view. Plus I have a piece of actual hardware that I can lend to people, use outside of the car, or sell someday if I want. On the other hand, it's possible that the iPod app has more features (are updates free?), but someone who knows both the app and the hardware would need to confirm this—it's just as possible that the iPod app has fewer features for all I know.

It's a matter of how many gadgets you want to haul around. And judging by your signature, it doesn't seem that you're averse to having several at a time ;)

Thank You for your opinion. I am aware that they're many GPS units in the market that cost around $50-$100, and are less than the amount the I am expecting to pay, but the app price is very tempting at a good $39 dollars in my case, since I only pay $39 from my credit card and I already have $11 dollars worth of itunes gift card credit. The hard thing is the Tom Tom Car Kit GPS receiver that cost $99!

I wish i could find some one ebay, but no luck.

And I would only carry at the most 2 devices with me. (which is my ipod touch and blackberry);)

A GPS unit would probably stay in my car for the entire time and not actually with me on the go, unlike my ipod touch.

I am aware they're GPS units that have multimedia add-ons, but a simple GPS is fine with me.;)

I have a blackberry tour with unlimited everything on verizon with data and texting but verizon really strips the phones software down. That's why I want to wait and get one in June 2010 when the new iphone comes out.

    Cool.

I got the Tom, Tom U.S.A app today!

I looked at my bank of america account and had a total of $38.12 cents charged.....very cheap GPS app for me:D

So far.....i have no regrets buying it!:D

    It comes with pre-loaded maps.

Even without the GPS receiver or Wi-Fi connection,

the app has a "Route Demo"

which can basically tell you your directions from point A to point B, with the background ladies voice, and the whole MPH, yards, and turn left/right distances thing!:D

Its preloaded maps are amazing! its like google maps, but without the Wi-Fi signal to load the maps, because they're there already!
