My 1st Gen Ipod touch seems to have better reception on the network in my hospital than the 2nd Gen. Is the antenna different/placed differently or is it just my particular units?

2G is better. I know because I happen to have both a 1G and 2G right now. Both were replaced/purchased within weeks of each other, so it's probably not a defect. 2G does a little better (a few seconds faster).
