Here are some 720P videos I took with my new iPod Tough 4th gen that some of you may be interested in seeing to gauge the quality of the video recording. And I must say, I am pretty impressed how far the iPod has come. I've noticed that there must be sufficient light available for a decent recording, or there will be a lot of noise (graininess).

It would be great if others can post videos under different conditions.

Request: Can someone post a video with no background noise? I'd like to see if I can hear any distortion from the mic (I seem to be getting a lot when there's no audible noise).

wow, that 1st video looks unbelievable for the ipod
did you use some type of program to make it look better? if so which one? i need it lol

Could you guys post the original files to megaupload/mediafire/rapidshare/etc?

I'm seeing a lot of compression artifacts in youtube videos, so I'm wondering if the artifacts come from the iPod or from youtube's conversion.

Thanks.

LOL. That's probably around 80-100 watts total.

Oh sorry, I wrote the watts for the incandescent light. It's actually 13W.

The artifact is from compression by YouTube. The original bitrate is 10Mbps.

also, youtube thinks it was uploaded from an iphone. they're going to have to update their ancient website :)

I know where I got the 18mb from. When I choose HD upload from YT it shows ~18MB rather than SD which I think was 7MB. So YT could be misreading the file size? Or it's just compressed for YT.

I guess all the videos that we have been watching from Youtube was actually crappy in original file?

YouTube is re-encoding/re-compressing content that gets sent to them. They don't immediately post the files even though the iPod touch is taking videos and recording them in an already YouTube compatible format (h.264 inside an .mp4 container basically).

Taking an already compressed/lossy format video file and then re-encoding/re-compressing it yet again is the reason 95% of the videos on YouTube look like utter garbage to begin with.

People should do recordings off their iPod touch and then upload the raw (meaning the original files that exist on the iPod touch themselves) someplace else. Use a tool like iPhone Explorer or some other file exploration tool to copy those files off the iPod touch and upload them to wherever, but not YouTube.

Comparing videos on YouTube isn't going to do much for quality...
