My device has a habit of switching off and restarting.

Any ideas what's causing this?

Bad battery,

A short inside of the iTouch,

Faulty Logic Board.

I'd take it to a local or online repair shop and get their opinion. Apple will tell you to buy a new one or turn you down any sort of help.

Mine as been doing that every now and again. Not sure, but it's only been doing that since i updated to 5.1

It may be for Operating soft, Try to upgrade it
