Has anyone noticed that ipod no longer need unmounting on a mac? I don't know if this feature was included in the last software update, but both my ipod's unmount after they have updated (they are still in the itunes list, but not on the desktop). Am i correct in thinking you no longer have to eject the ipod if it's not shown on the desktop?

I had this same experience, but I thought it was a bug. It got fixed w/ an update to 1.2.1. It would update, unmount, and then not be recognized when I tried to make any changes.

my nano only does what you're describing if the "enable disk use" box is checked. are you sure yours is unchecked? perhaps it's a flaw/feature (depending on how you look at it) of the full-size iPods only.

The "enable disk use" box is unchecked. It does it both with my nano and my old 3G ipod. It's actually very good - when you click update ipod, it shows up on the desktop, updates, then when it's finished it dissapears from the desktop (though remains in the itunes menu) allowing you to unplug the ipod without having to actually eject it. I was sure it must be a new feature
