Apple today announced an update to its full-sized iPod line. Among the enhancements are new games (Bejeweled, Cubis 2, Mahjong, Mini golf, Pac Man, Tetris, Texas Holdem, Vortex, and Zuma), Gapless playback (#1 request according to Jobs), a 60% brighter display, and longer battery life. The new iPod is available immediately in the following models:

30 GB: $249
-Black or White
-14 hr music playback, 4 hr slideshow, 3.5 hr video

80 GB: $349
-Black or White
-20 hr music playback, 6 hr slideshow, 6.5 hr video

80GB iPod seems like the only model with good value/price ratio. :D The home sync feature is an especially nice touch, something people predicted since the 2G iPods.

I hope Apple releases an iPod software update so those of us who already own 5th generation iPods can take advantage of all these new features.

I'm very happy about the gapless playback, and battery life, but generally all these updates are pretty disappointing.

From what I saw in the presentation stuff, 5G iPods get everything software related; movies, gapless playback, and games.

so do I, because I bought a game thinking it would work with my 5th generation ipod and it doesn't :(

Exactly what I'm hoping.. I bought my 5G like 3 weeks ago, the only real difference is the software, I don't use videos enough to notice the brighter screen.

Pretty sure new iPod is still classed as 5G.

Are these enhancements in software, so my existing 5G iPod video will reap the benefits of games, gapless, movies, etc.?

I just called 2 of my local (Northern Virginia) Apple retail stores, and the 80GB iPods aren't in stock as of yet. Looks like it will be a few days until they show up. Apple's online store shows shipping times of "1-3 days". :(

where did the student pricing go? i guess there was an overall drop, but I was hoping to use my discount one more time before graduating

Now what do I do, I've been waiting since Christmas and this is what I get..UGGGHHHH ? Where is my widescreen iPod Steve ?

what do you man by home sync... i missed lot of info. and i could not find anything on that...

Do the "older 5G" ipods support the new tv shows (640x480) and movies???? I don't care about the new search and such...Im just wondering about the movies and games.

I feel vindicated in my 60GB 5G purchase a few months back, particularly since I got it on sale. If I can upgrade the software, I'm all chuckles. Besides, I've almost never found the screen brightness an issue.

I do wish I could ultra-boost the audio on-board. Some of the video digitizations I have are too quiet.

5g or not 5g

I'm in the same boat, just bought mah-jong for my video ipod and it won't drag in. and itunes says my software is "up to date"

30 and 80?

Kind of a huge gap, don'cha think? For an extra $100 I can nearly TRIPLE the capacity? Why would I even consider a 30 GB model?

Disappointment...What can I say!! May be I was expecting too much :(

Yeah, I wanted to see the phone that was rumored (phone, iPod, remote control, etc.).

The new 'pod pricing seems to be at the old Education Store levels anyway. So basically they got rid of it for students and gave it to everyone.
