iPod IPOD-USB car stereo problem

I have just bought a S.W.A.T5 car stereo that has usb connectivity for Ipod.
All you have to do is plug in and play however when I try this the "do not disconnect" warning sign comes on, the same as when its plugged into mac.
can anyone tell me how to sort this .

No Aux Jack Port

The unit doesnt have A aux jack. The guy in the shop told me to plug into usb
he said I can listen to sounds as well as charging. On the box it says"new ipod input" and in the instruction manual it says the ipod connector is the usb port.
The ipod ids acting like the stereo is a hard drive, what to do?

What iPod do you have? That may make a difference. Some iPods will not work with certain stereos.
 
I have a 5th generation 80 gig ipod, so not so old(late 2006) maybe it is operated through headset but nothing in manual. cheers

What do you mean manual? What you read the documentation that came with the 'head unit'? Are you trying to control the iPod from the iPod and just have audio from the head unit? Or are you wanting to control the iPod with the Head Unit?
 
All I am trying to do is connect my ipod to the new car stereo I have just brought. when I connect using usb a warning sign on the ipod reads "do not disconnect " the same as when plugged into computer

You still did not answer the questions. Have you read the documentation that came with the stereo? What is the stereo supposed to do? Is it supposed to control the iPod from the stereo or just import the audio from the iPod with you controlling from the iPod?

I can't help you unless you answer the questions.

Per that link iPod must be connected via the aux input from the rear of the head unit. The USB if for other media like thumb drives, not the iPod.

You'll need to get behind the deck and attach the aux line in with a connector to your iPod. After you do that you can control the music via the iPods interface.

Oh I spent 5 minutes using Google to get that information. If you'd have read the manual that came with your stereo you'd have had this answer already.

ive read the manual through and through, the info on that link is whats printed on the box, which as you have stated says that i should connect through
the rca aux at the back, however in the manual it states that the USB connector is also the ipod connector, also the guy in the shop told me to connect it through the USB, not only that, the RCA AUX has two cables a red and black
so how is this meant to fit the ipod, surely not an adapter as this whole process renders it non ipod friendly, on the box it states "New Ipod Input"

WOW all the material I've found state that the USB is for thumb drives only. You'd need an aux to RCA to connect to the RCA to aux cable. Your iPod will not work via the USB.

Okay I've found the manual online for this stereo. You plug the RCAs into the stereo with the mini aux end out towards the passenger area. That's what you plug into the iPod.

For the USB here is the specs right from FLI

The SWAT5 features a front mounted USB port and a SD card slot allowing the user to play MP3 files contained on their flash memory instantly.

what threw me was the fella in the shop telling me the wrong thing and also the manual on page 3 is a diagram of the unit, no 17 - USB connector
- iPOD connector
whats that all about, maybe to charge ipod

I took the unit back to shop today and they rang manafacturer, it turns out you can put ipod in usb if it has a flash drive (a new ipod)if not then you have to connect in aux, you were right Eric.
nothing in instruction manual about that, also the stereo I replaced had aux in back, the only reason i purchased it was because you could connect through front. Never-mind, it seems to be a good stereo anyway.

Just buy a 16 GB thumb drive; they are quite cheap if you look around a bit, and that would give you a few weeks worth of music.
