I'm planning on purchasing a video iPod in the near future (personally i'm hoping for a Nano with bigger screen and video support on the 5th, otherwise i'll buy a 30 gb 5.5g).

I'm wondering what software you guys use for converting video such as XviD AVI files to a more ipod-friendly format and quality? For Windows x86

    Easy PSP Video Converter

Easy PSP Video Converter is a powerful PSP MPEG4 video converter/PSP burner with fast working speed in burning movie to PSP and downloading movie to PSP. You can get this PSP MPEG4 video converter at a very competitive price.

The best free program I've seen is Koyote's free iPod video converter: http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html.

If you're willing to shell out some cash, Nero Recode CE seems to be better (if you want to use it for longer than the 30 day trial, you have to buy Nero 7 Ultra Edition, which isn't cheap). It can also do DVDs, but they need to be unprotected (you can use DVD Decrypter to do that). You can download a free 30 day trial here: http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/eng/download.php. Here is a tutorial that explains how to use Nero Recode CE to produce iPod compatible videos, because the default settings do not work for iPods: http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/ipod-video.ars/5.

Warning: Some video converter programs require you to convert each video individually. Make sure you use a batch program to make life easier for you.
