a quick update:

i still haven't ordered one because i was on vacation in vegas for a while and am now just getting back to work. the problem is... where i'm working is a television station and i'm there on an internship... which means no pay. i have enough money for a 30gb ipod right now but really want the 60 because i'll fill up around 20gb or so just after connecting it for the first time.

should i continue to wait or just go for it now and get the 30?

If you know you'll fill up 20gb's straight away, you buy new cd's all the time, and you do like to have most of your music with you, then you should wait and get the 60 gb. It sounds like you're leaning towards the 60gb, so that's probably the right decision for you.

For myself, I prefer the 30 gb. It's slimmer in size and I just don't need all of my music on me at once. 30gb is *a lot* of music to have at your disposal. I have everything I love on there (and then some) and still have 14 gb's free. I actually pondered getting the 60gb at one point, but after using my 30gb for a month or two now, and seeing my listening patterns, I'm glad now that I didn't. So if you can do without having everything you own on there at once and prefer the slimmer size, you might want to consider the 30gb.

being that i don't have an ipod yet... i don't know the answer to this question. but if i were to go with the 30gb and decided i didn't want ALL my music to transfer, how would i set it up? i thought that after you set it up that it would automatically send all the music you have on your computer over to the ipod when it synced.

because i'm not sure if i'd really need ALL the music on me at all times... it'd be nice... but it'd save me 100 bucks...

No, you can uncheck albums/or individual songs in iTunes so it won't sync those particular choices. Basically you can have everything in your iTunes folder but you don't need to sync everything to go on to your iPod.

ohh... so when i uncheck the boxes in itunes (as well as not playing them) it doesn't sync them?

Correct, when you plug in the iPod, open iTunes Preferences and select the option which states that only checked songs will be synced to your iPod.

My iPod has died. It would show the apple logo, spin up the HD, then shut off, and repeat. I was told by AppleCare to let the battery drain, and then charge it. Didn't work. Welcome Creative Zen(discovered that this hing is quite a brick, thought it was as thin as nano.

yeah, what's this i've heard about the new ipods coming out REALLY soon?? does anyone have any links to more recently developed articles about it? i'm just curious as to why everyone is assuming it will now be sooner than later like originally expected.

yeah, i used the education discount for my powerbook. just wondering about the new ipod rumors..............

same questioning...

I just had the same experience and I just went for it. Bought the 60gb video iPOD and don't regret a single bit. I gave it some thought and the roumor that the new ones will have a touch screen scares me. I hate touch screen technology, it just gets dirty and fingerprinted constantly and I don't think I would enjoy such thing on an iPOD. So for now the current video model is perfect for me. It's a pretty slick gadget, I love it !

That's my feeling on the touch screen too. I dont know why everyone is wanting one really. I guess they would have to improve the screens durability and use a special coating or a different material for the screen entirely to make it even possible. Even then it would be hard to keep it clean and you wouldn't be able to use a hard case like an agent 18 and so forth.

hmm... i'm beginning to wonder if i really should continue to wait or not. yes, it is rumored that the new ones will come out soon... but at the same time, do i really want one of the new ones? it sounds like it will be more of a PDA than an ipod. but... if i did wait for it and decided i'd rather have the current ones... they'd probably be cheaper.

decisions decisions...

I'm contemplating the same decision. I currently have a unopened iPod mini because my last one broke and apple replaced it. I haven't opened it for awhile now because I'm thinking about selling it and buying a 60GB 5G. But the rumors of a new iPod and the buyers guide are telling me to wait a little more, but I'm starting to miss having an iPod!

I'm selling my brand new 60GB. So if you want a $400 iPod and $35 case for $350, here it is. I'll ship it to you for free too because you're a MacRumors user. :)

Daniel.
i'd be kind of interested, except i get the educational discount with it so i wouldn't really be saving a whole lot. if you'd go cheaper... then perhaps we could talk ;-)

exactly, people keep telling me to wait too... but c'mon... i've been waiting long enough! i don't know if i can hold out until the next one!

i'd rather have the 60 gig for obvious reasons... i'd rather have one sooner than later...

I think you answered your question. If you get an iPod and Apple releases a new one within 14 days your in luck.

I'm just about to buy a 60GB 5G. Can you tell me how the size compares with my current iPod (a 3G 40GB)?

i'm beginning to grow a bit impatient for the new ones to come out. i need a new toy!!!

not sure how much longer i want to wait...
