iPod iPod's Getting Cleverer...

This function was introduced with the 4G iPods and the mini's. The chip inside was upgraded with the newer gen, and this was a feature available only to this chipset.

So what about the backlight going on when you inserted / removed the headphones in the 3g and 1g Mini under a previous iPod software release? How did the iPod's know?

I also have this functionality on my 4G iPod (40GB purchased 7/2004 - right after introduction).
