An iMac before the end of the year. I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad about that. If it's a quad core I'll have to have a serious think about whether I sell this one. If it's just a minor speed bump I'll keep this baby.

They should keep the MB different from the MBP.
Maybe by making the MB also aluminum, but keeping the black/white color.

Come on Al MacBook! This is like watching a very long birth labor.
Almost like experiencing a very long birth labor.

I have my doubts about quad-core. And just because the CPU gets a small speed bump doesn't mean that the rest of the components won't get big updates.

I think the MacBook will have a white keyboard and a black display bezel instead of a black keyboard and an aluminum colored bezel.

I'm dying for a MP update, they're painfully overdue for one.

And what about the mini, that thing hasn't been updated forever and is pathetically out of date and uncompetitive.

Oh yeah...

Quad-core would be sweet, but it would definitely drain battery like no other. Of course, I try to always be near an outlet!

The interesting thing about this AppleInsider report is that is specifically points to a staggered release schedule of iPods first, then other products after. I guess I was hoping for one big announcement, especially one about MBP's!

Just so everyone knows, if you post something that the moderators don't like on this website, they will edit it to make it look like you said something else.

If I were you, I'd find another community that DOES believe in free speech, because this one doesn't.

Same here.

Personally I think it will be:

iPods (September 9) » Notebooks (Late September / October) » iMacs (October/November).

Maybe LED backlights have become practical in iMac sizes?

Re timing, FWIW, the Touch student promo runs through 9/15.

Sometimes those promos list qualifying Macs and iPods very specifically with model numbers, in which case anything released on the 9th would not fall under the back-to-school promo. Other times they've just stated a general product name, and so new models WOULD fall under the promo.

I could not for the life of me find Apple's list of qualifying Macs and iPod Touches, to see how they're listed for the back-to-school promo. If anyone knows where that list is, and it gives a model number for the Touch, then new Touches on the 9th (excluded from the promo by their new model number) sounds plausible to me. Otherwise, I'd expect new Touches after the 15th--and maybe Macs on the 9th.

Anything is still possible. Maybe at a new ipod introduction on Sept. 9th, we will see a demo of the new notebook line to be released at months end.

I'd have to make my mind up about whether it was worth it. The Grapics card I have at the moment is fine for me. As is the hard drive. I guess increasing the amount of possible RAM would be good but not enough to get me to sell this. I really think that the only thing that would make me trade up would be a quad core processor. A 30" iMac might make me take another look too, but really I think that 24" is big enough. My best friend already says that this is ridiculously big.

New MacBooks pretty please. Aluminium would be awesome, although I like how they look now, too. Discrete graphics would be awesome, although the new Intel X4500 would be more than adequate, given how they're said to perform. A 250GB hard drive and 2GB RAM standard would also be very, very welcome. And if possible for the (supposedly lower than current) price point, please throw in a multitouch trackpad and a LED screen. Apart from these things, I don't see anything changing. (But that's still quite a lot of changes/upgrades*, if they all happen.)

*) However you see them.

(Lack of) Tablet rumors

Interesting… no tablet rumors at all since July.

It seems that Apple is keeping it fairly secret in the weeks (months?) leading up to its release…

Multi-touch glass trackpad please. :D

I wonder if the upcoming iMac revision will have a multi-touch Mighty Mouse or a large multi-touch glass trackpad.

I really really hope that Apple will not change the keyboard on the Macbook Pro. I really like the current keyboard and don't like the Macbook and Air Keyboard. Even worse would be if they changed the color to black. Well - we will see. I do have to buy Macbook Pros because I cannot stand the glossy screens. Macbook Pros are the only option left (beside a Mini or Mac Pro with an external display):cool:;)

I would guess that if any "far out" new devices such as tablets (which could become another "hobby" like Apple TV) are ever going to get out of the labs, it will be at MWSF in January, at the soonest. Apple has lots to release with their existing successful lines between now and then anyway.

please a new designed MBP for the love of god

I think they're going to stick with the same 2003 design until the rest of the notebook world catches up with it

I do love backlight keys in black, though--so much more visible than backlit silver.

The x4500 is pretty great as far as nondedicated graphics goes. it can do 1080p which helps for the bluray apple will come out with (in like 4 years. geez apple way to be wayyy behind on that curve. snobs). I think base macbooks have 160gb hard drive but get a bump to 2 gb ram. then the option of possibly a 250 and 320 gb one as well (as well as for mbp's).

I'd love to see new imac bumps but it will be a while before those get updated again most likely. Mini needs to just die if apple will not update it asap (as in before october).

I bet all we see it ipod touch and nano revisions as well as just a new macbook casing for updates now. And I will love seeing all these way way to anxious apple kool aid drinkers start crying like "waaahh thats it" then 2 days later everything else is updated.

Agreed. They won't mingle their product lines, but each one is going to get its own special day.

I wonder where Mac Pros fit into this - it seems to be on its own release cycle.

Apple, make the MacBook Aluminium please.
I am sure the Aluminium MacBook would still have a good design.

it'll probably have a great design for aesthetics, but for function, just like the new plastic iphone gets better reception than the previous iphone and the current plastic macbook gets better reception than the current mbp, it will just hurt the actual function of the mb. i just hate to see apple sacrifice function or looks.

Is "24" Alu iMac, 3.06 Ghz, 4 GB RAM 500 GB HD" too slow? A quad core wont make it noticeably faster. It'll just burn a hole in your pocket.

Seems a bit odd for Apple to update the iMacs when they were the most recently updated but then neglect the Mini still. I guess the saying holds that the more things change the more they stay the same...

Yes, the spaced out key layout is kind of unnatural feeling. That's one thing I prefer about the current MBP. Hopefully they don't change!

So is the consensus that an Imac will come out by Xmas or when
Snow Leopard is released sometime next year? How much faster actually is a QuadCore to the current 3.06?
