Looking deep into the chrystal ball.....
Why keep the MBP and MB as two separate product lines?
What is the difference? Dedicated graphics, an expresscard slot and the screen size AFAIK. Most other specifications are the same (CPU, RAM, WiFi, etc).
Why not just merge the two lines, it should be cheaper for apple to handle one line of notebooks and differentiate by size instead.
Apple will bring out a sub-notebook (the iMove) to compete with Asus Eee etc. It will be priced at $299. The same components, without the screen, will be available in the new Mac Micro that will retail for $249. Hopefully they will not use the Atom processor (even though the new dual-core Atom should be more performant), that would be a step down from the current Mini performance. The Micro will replace AppleTV. Both will have a docking station for the iPod.
The new Mini and the 13" MB will use the same components. Redesigned cases, dual core, dedicated graphics, no superdrive or combo-drive, easily exchangable harddisk. Starting price $799 for MB and $499 for Mini.
The next step up is the 15" MB. Dual core, with BTO quad core. With superdrive, SDD BTO, easily exchangable harddisk, expresscard. Starting price $1299.
The 17" MBP will be dropped.
The standard iMac will be having a quad BTO for the 24". Price from $999.
The will also be an iMac Nano. The 17" model will be back again with the specifications of the Mini and 13" MB. Price $699. The perfect "kitchen computer".
