Well there are 5 contributor slots available in iTunes U if you or anyone else wants to join in on this. Having added quite a bit in there now I think it works decently well for the purpose.

My 2 bits: I'm a teacher at an alternative school and we have ready access to all sorts of tech. I have a Windows laptop and a Windows desktop, a MacBook Pro, an iPad Air,a projector with Apple TV and a Promethean board. My students have 1:1 laptops and 1:1 iPad 3s.
I primarily use my iPad with a Belkin Quode case, but for heavy lifting I prefer the macbook still. I bounce around between programs and windows regularly--the iPad just isn't built for that. Macbook is for production and the iPad is for consumption.
My wife has a Surface Pro 3 that the school bought for her, and she uses it similarly to the way I use my iPad. I've tried both and the iPad is the way to go. With the google suite, Notes Plus, and an attached keyboard case, I have the iPad with me at all times. The Surface cant keep up. It has serious battery issues, a clunky interface, it can't Airplay, and let's face it, it has an identify crisis. I've given it an honest go and can't make peace with that thing.
She did just pick up an iPad Pro 12.7 but the district has completely neutered it--I can't say I've had a chance to give it a proper test.
