Hey all,

I'm on my brand new Powerbook and I am an avid IRC user. I have a problem though. I don't know which one is best for me.

I use a lot of aliases, like /kban - but I also have an alias that joins 7 rooms (three password protected) by typing /all. And a password alias and lots of other things on mIRC - PC Version.

I am an op in a room that is for this fan site I administrate and I *do* like to be there but so far Xchat, Snak, Ircle, and Colloquy haven't met my standards (I guess that's how I'd say it). Maybe I'm missing something but I just got overwhelmed by the.. difference in the programs.

Please help me - I want an IRC program that is easy to run, has a nice setup so I can view and add channel bans, a customizable area for aliases, and that's it.. don't care much about extra fance visual stuff (as you know, mIRC may not be the best looking program).

Please help me.

EDIT - ALSO:

I've decided to go with Xchat.

Hey all,

For all those who use Xchat, I have a few questions.

how do I set it so channel modes AND /me & /action messages appear in different colors than black? They currently get jammed in there. Same with quit messages.

Basically, I want it to look like mIRC does in its default form. :)

Also, on the User Menu, I want to add a "Join All" option for backup - I'd like to join seven channels. Is this possible? if so, three are password-protected/key'ed so I need to know how to "arrange it."

Example: Name - Join all
command - join #test; join #testtwo passwordgoeshere; join #testthree password

Like that?

I think that's all the questions for now.. :)

I love Conversation. It's a great Mac-only IRC client...and it's extremely user-friendly and easy to use, IMO. Why don't you try it?

X-Chat Aqua will probably work for what you want, all you need to do is look at the various Plugins available for it, including the alias plugin available here here.

Most of the X-Chat plugins will work on X-ChatAqua. I know specifically the alias plugin works.

Some of the plugins look like they'll add the functionality you want.

Another option is Colloquy, which is my personal favorite. It is free.

EDIT: Conversation is quite nice too... Sorry, missed where you said you had tried colloquy...

Ok thanks guys..

Question for X-chat users with that alias plugin. Say I wanted to add a command: chaop. On mIRC, I'd type: /chaop NAME and it would have chanserv op and then protect (+o and then +a) the person's name.

bit confused by the simple x-chat 'language' - %'s etc. Any help? :)

As far as I can tell %1 is the alias name and %2 is the first argument, followed by %3 etc.... Experiment and find out...that's what I've been doing.
