Hi. I'm looking for some beta testers to help test Iris, our new screen recorder for the Mac.

I just sent out the second beta build to testers today so it's still early in the beta process. This gives you the opportunity to help define the product. I'd love hear what you're looking for in a screen recorder.

You can find more information about Iris at our website:

If you have any questions I'm happy to answer them here, or contact us on the website.

- Can target specific application audio. This avoids unwanted audio such as mail beeps or instant message notifications.

- Optionally record directly to h.264. Great on machines that support hardware accelerated encoding.

- Optionally record to proprietary format and encode later. This allows much better framerates on machines that don't support hardware accelerated encoding.

- Great color matching. Iris has better color matching than all of the other screen recorders that I have measured.

- Start and stop timers. Set up a screen recording to start at 4pm and stop 30 minutes later.

- Powerful automatic file naming with variable substitution and automatic Finder tagging.

Iris available as a free download in the Mac App Store with a $40 in-app purchase to remove watermarks from future recordings. Which brings me to another point.

Most screen recorders add a very large watermark to your recordings when in demo mode. This is obviously an incentive to purchase. We decided early on that we wanted Iris to be useful even when running for free. Iris' watermark is relatively small and tasteful. For personal use the free version may be fine. Clearly for professional use you wouldn't want watermarking. A sample of the watermark is attached.

Give Iris a try. I look forward to your feedback.

Thanks for your feedback. It's a challenge to find the correct price point for a product. I'll consider your feedback as I evaluate any pricing changes in the future.

I'd appreciate it if you downloaded Iris and gave it a try. I'd love to hear feedback on the product and features as well.

We are currently working on Iris 1.2.0 with the sole purpose of adding Applescript and Automator support. Iris 1.2.0 is currently in beta testing with Applescript support already implemented. Automator support is coming soon.

We are looking for some people to help test out Applescript support and provide feedback on the script terminology. If you are interested you can get access to the beta at macdeveloper.net
