Obviously quite a few people do care about them, based on the number of scripts that exist, discussions on the various forums and so on. But if you don't care, then that's fine, but why post?

Of course we do. That's such a stupid question.

If you have a smart playlist of your Top 50 most played (based on playcount), you have a bunch of really good songs. That's a good thing, isn't it?

It's good to listen to your best songs isn't it? Or is that wrong?

If you have nothing of significance to contribute to this post then don't bother posting.

Pathetic. Please don't let me stop you count your music. I'm gonna "listen" to mine. My post was supposed to be a contribution by helping you break free, which you obviously missed. On top of that you got ofended by it. I do apologise.

That's brilliant. It's like one of those church group bashes.

"Release your inner spirit! You can do it!" .....

I don't want to shuffle through loads of songs that are only 2-3 stars or lower playcount (i.e. those I don't like as much). In saying that, its more my rating that's important, not the playcount. I have the one playcount based smart album which I rarely go into, but its good when I do because it's all great stuff (*Listen* to the most)

The lower rated songs far out weigh my higher rated songs, unfortunately. It's not all the same genre of music that I could listen to whenever I want to like you, apparently.

It's not pathetic. Playcounts are based on many times you *listen* to songs?

Break free my ass

WOW! I am not alone in doing this? I worry about my play counts too! I let the song finish or FF to the end to add the count if I don't feel like listening to the last 1/3 but still want it to get the count. And songs that I listen to a lot I will skip the end on!

LOL! That is funny. I didn't know anyone else did that.

Yes but in this case they're based on how many times you click to songs and not listen. People have found ways to manipulate the playcount to their tastes. Read the above post.

Playcounts are incredibly important to me. Couldn't do without them.

It was a moment for a screenshot when my top song reached 700 plays last night.

Does anyone else sometimes try to close the screen shot screens with the wrong red X button?? HA HA every time I do it I just LAUGH!!

It seems that many of us do this, as I do as well. I don't understand stand why I am so obessed with the playcount, but I am someone who likes to focus on numbers. I can be content looking over the points after a NASCAR or Formula 1 race for hours. Looking to see who still has a chance at winning, or where a good finish has put someone. I look at my music in the sameway. Trying to figure out if any songs have a chance at the #1 spot, or a spot in the top ten. Apparently, there are other people out there like me...

I understand why you'd be afraid of play counts. The other day my iPod didn't pause when I pulled my headphones out. Lo and behold, I had been listening to 'Dragostea din Tei' by Ozone. lo and behold, it was the only song in the selected area. Lo and behold, my iPod was on repeat forever. Lo and Behold, when I synced the next day, I had listened to 'Dragostea din Tei' 80 times

I've created a smartlist called "songs not played yet," with a list of all songs that, obviously, have a playcount of zero. It is useful to me since I just recently loaded my CD library into iTunes and my new iPod. I get to re-discover my old CDs now, and also skip songs that I don't really want on my iTunes. Later on I'll erase the unwanted songs and keep my iTunes the way I want it.

If you don't find playlists useful, fine. But some of us do, so don't begrudge us for using tools within our grasp.
