    Hi all,

I was wondering if someone in this forum can help me with the kernel panic issue I have. It randomly happens, and it happens with a distorted GUI. The screen would have a few random pixels with random colors, or a dialog box will be cut into rectangles and scatter on the screen, or the image of an application would get stuck to the menu bar, and it dies. I can still access the machine through ssh, but the GUI doesn't come back.

I reinstalled snow leopard with all the updates to date, but it is still happening. I also tried PRAM reset, and RAM test. So far I cannot detect the problem, nor reliably reproduce the problem.

I am suspecting the graphics related hardware or software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not seeing the same thing i see normally with the "Lion bug" a lot of us are getting, so i would guess it's hardware related. Have you run a hardware test?

    Solved after months

Finally this issue got resolved. We had to replace the logic board twice to get it right. Now it doesn't crash any more. I thought I could trust apple hardware, but apparently not.

Any hardware can go bad. It happens. I was having the same issues as you. Went to get the hardware tested, reinstalled Lion, tried removing RAM.. basically everything. It ended up being that the back of my iMac had dust in it and didn't allow air to blow out to cool well enough, so it would overheat and freeze. Took 5 seconds to spray dust the back, ran smcFanControl and have had no problems since. Crazy how something that gets to you for months can be something so simple. I was about 90% sure my issue was logic board/graphics card.
