Sorry for the rant but I'm very tired of the direction this site has taken and I have been a faithful visitor for several years and even if the iPhone has become THE thing, I would like to know some rumors about the mac.

Sad times.

What's your opinion?
I like MacRumors mostly for the forums, but when it comes to Apple news/rumors, I have several sources that I subscribe to via RSS (and read via Google Reader).

9 to 5 Mac
AppleInsider
Fortune: Apple 2.0
Mac Rumors
MacWorld
TUAW
Technologizer
The Boy Genius Report

If there's a new Mac rumor, it typically hits ALL of those sites within a few hours.

I haven't seen a new Mac rumor on any of those sites in the last few weeks. The news hitting most of those sites has been iPhone lately.

What does that tell you about the state of Macs and rumors?

It's not great that consumer reports do not recommend iPhone 4 BUT Pogue, the guy who reviews smartphones for the NY Times doesn't recommend the EVO that everyone has been hollering about either. Take a look at his review, not something which would make the world run out and get an EVO. His column in the NYTimes is a very good place to look for thoughtful reviews.

As a whole, I do like macroumors.com a lot though. You find out the upcoming events before just about anyone else and talk about it with a variety of people.

Well then on your Mac News website you can put it on page 2.

Wow, you really got me there huh tough guy!

BTW, if I was making a MACrumors site that stupid article even wouldn't make it to my page 3. :p

Also about 2 million people ALREADY brought the stupid iPhone 4 and now the stupid magazine says don't buy it? Wow this stupid magazine is really current and up to date about things isn't it. LOL!

BTW AGAIN, even I knew that the stupid IPhone 4 had single issues weeks ago although I try to avoid any IPhone news religiously.

Split the Website, Use the tabs

First off I have an iPhone 4 and I love it. I have not noticed this antenna glitch.

Now let me be blunt. I am sick of logging onto your site, which I have been reading for years and seeing nothing but iPhone or iPad for the entire frontpage. Look your site started by bringing news to hardcore mac users. We want to get news on new software for the mac power user. For example rumors of new software or games coming to the mac should be more frequent on the main page. I would like to see all iPhone rumors go in the iPhone tab on the homepage except perhaps major ones, not things like a BMW ipod ad, it just should not be on the homepage. Please remember the reason your site has always been successful, it is because the hardcore relied on you to give them information that concerned them. Please try to make some changes, at least balance the rumors like 1/3 iphone and 2/3 mac. Otherwise I'm sorry to say I think a lot of us will be leaving in search of someone who can do this.

The site and what is covers is just fine. I don't mind reading a bit outside the box information like windoze, android and similar stuff as long as it somehow relates to apple or has impact on the business apple is in.

the problem is that there are not many new developments regarding macs. the roadmap of intel is clear so there are not many rumors necessary. also macs are quite standard machines now and the only rumors really can be about their design. there will not be a revolutionary new concept for macs that makes them different from other computers.

OSX is quite mature and will only change incrementally so not many rumors there either.

unfortunately apple doesn't bring much new software. just see iLife and iWork. no rumors their either.

so all new stuff and all new rumors will be in the iOS, iPhone and iPad area for a while. That's just as it is right now.

When there will be new developments like new interfaces, processor changes, really new GPU concepts, new screen types, end of optical drives then we will see mac rumors again.......

The problem is Mac Rumors don't bring page clicks anymore, that is why we have iphone press releases everywhere. I really don't think we will ever see true rumors anymore. Not the way it was 5 years ago. The money coming in is driven by the iphone and ipad now, not Macs.

I agree! Let's just organize this site more. Just add a Mac and an iPad tab. Just put all of BS in the proper place.

Save the front page for an important news about each product.

Although sorry I don't agree that some major magazine finally decides to tell people not to buy the iPhone 4 because of its signal issues. When everybody and his mother knew that it had signal issues weeks before. Sorry that's just not front page news worthy.

Seperate Forum

Please create a completely separate forum. Call it iRumors, or iPhonerumors.com or something, and leave MacRumors for the computers. Put the iPhones, iPads, iPods on the other site please.

I remember when this forum was mostly about Apple Computers. Now, at any given time of the day hit "New Posts" and almost all of them are about either the iPhone or iPad.

The first two are already registered, but idevicerumors.com is still available if you hurry. ;)

This site is, and always has been an Apple rumors, news, and community site. The name—which is as much a part of the brand recognition as anything—was the key (if not sole) product line at the time of its founding. Start much earlier, and it would've been called AppleIIRumors.com, a few years later, something else altogether.

In other words, it's about the company and the entire product line. Were the Mac still the only product, I'm sure it would hold much more relevance for you, but if that were the case, the company may not even exist any longer, either.

Things change, and MR reflects the change in the company it focuses on. Apple isn't solely about the Mac, and neither is MR. Current topics and discussions also reflect what the majority of the community wants to focus on.

If & when a major revision or new introduction to the Mac lineup is made, I'm positive you will see the discussions, rumors, and news reflect that accordingly.

OP if it is bothering you that much then you can ignore certain posts from Forum Spy. Or you can block a certain forum altogether.

And how are iPhones and iPads not "Apple Computers"?
They have monitors, there's a user interface. They definitely compute. And they're made by Apple.
Sounds like Apple Computers to me.

Just because your idea of what a "computer" should be is outdated doesn't mean the whole world needs to cater to you.
Apple still is very much in the computer business, it just so happens that their focus has somewhat shifted to mobile computing (and with fantastic results, so why blame them).

On-topic: I enjoy MR's consistent approach towards the articles they publish - anything and everything one would want to know to predict Apple's next move.
That's the great thing about this site - they say it's about rumors, but really, if you keep up with the stories, nothing's a surprise.
And that's what keeps me coming back.

Great thread and I fully support this suggestion...

Quite frankly I am getting sick of coming to my fav Mac related site and read nothing else but iDevice bullcrap that I can't care less about...

Please make iDevice dedicated site and keep MacRumors what it was and is suppose to be - Mac / Os X site...

Perhaps some of you don't realize, but iOS devices are taking over the world, but Macs are still limited by a certain monopoly and IT departments.

Btw, OMG where are my iOS news today! So ... many ... Mac ... news ... today. =p
