Hi! I want to buy the new MacBook Air 2019, but can't decide on storage. Will 128 GB be enough if I use bootcamp for Windows 10 (mainly for using MS office stuff)? Also, can I use bootcamp on an external SSD?

I would not recommend. Only if u don’t have much other data. How much depends on u. Nobody knows here but probably u will run rather sooner than later out of storage.

But u can also boot from external ssd.

Not recommended. Better safe than sorry. 128 is already tight for MacOS only (plus few personal files).

I am running Windows 10 in a Parallels virtual machine on an 2015 11", 8GB RAM, 128 Gb MacBook Air without any issues. Not a lot of extras. 32Gb space remaining.

Okay, understood. The vibe is "better safe than sorry". It's just crazy that they charge $200 (in the US, more where I'm buying from) for the extra 128GB, whereas I can buy a Samsung T5 1TB for less than that.

It really isn't. It's entirely dependent on usage. Nine months in and my total usage is currently 24Gb. YMMV, etc. (For use with Windows bootcamp, I'd probably go for the 256Gb SSD; but it depends.)

You can boot off of an external ssd

I have a 2011 i5/2GB/120GB Air that I used daily in my classroom for years. I had Windows on it, partitioned 80/40 between OS X and Windows. For some basic productivity and the single Windows app that I needed, it worked perfectly fine. I would have gone the VM route, but a VM on 2GB wasn’t happening.
