I'm about to buy a MacBookPro. My immediate needs are not great, but within the next year I'd like to get FCP and begin to learn it. I'm not a professional, but I'm an aspiring filmmaker looking to have a basic tool. The issue... money. I'd really love to get the beginning level 13 inch, but will there be operating issues? One person recommended that I start with the entry level 13 inch and add RAM when I need it. Will that do the trick? Many thanks for advice to a novice.

Yes, I think you should be fine. My base 2.4 2011 MBP 13" runs it well. I don't make huge projects, but I never ran into any slowdowns. More ram will definitely help!
