is 16gb ram really needed?

Honestly 8 gb of ram to me is pretty much enough for anything even on the retina macbook pro.

I honestly would like to hear opinions before I decided whether or not to get a 8gb or 16gb ram even though I believe 8 gb is enough while 16 is overkill.

You gave no information about what you plan to use the computer for or what programs you're going to run. How do you expect people to give an opinion with no information to base it off of? You mostly seem to have your mind made up, anyways. If you think 8GB is enough and 16GB is overkill, then get 8.
