hotel rooms are not safe for expensive items- even with a desk lock you might lose it! I agree- buy a cheap iBook- 12" one, some ear buds for movies and such, and you are set. Down load a few movies off iTunes to play so you don't even need to keep track of discs. This is supposed to be a relaxing trip I assume- so you don't want to be worrying about an expensive laptop- unless you have money to replace it if it gets ruined in a driving rainstorm, dropped during a fall on the trail, or stolen at the hotel.

well said. i agree, however wouldnt saturating in paint and ripping off all the decals void applecarE?

Never said saturate. Might want to use something like giant indelible markers which will penetrate and not rub off. Wasn't talking about removing decals, just not adding any to uglify due to shifting and adhesive mess. I'm sure it could be done in such a way that didn't impact applecare.

lucky... bastard... *incoherant mumbling*... go to the south of India, but watch out for that pesky monsoon season!

Well, I haven't been traveling since I went to Thailand in year 2000. I have been working non stop since then (yup! every summer, every Xmas, every 7/4, every Labor Day, every Memorial Day etc.). So I have to go somewhere this year. South of India, Kerala that's where I am planning to go.

OK, everybody. Thanks for all your opinion. I am not gonna bring MBP with me. Thanks for you all talked me off of getting a new MBP. Now I have extra 3000 bucks add to my budget which allows me to travel longer and to more countries.:D

Thank you.

its too big

The 17 inch MBP is way too big... in my honest opinion even the 15 inch is a little big as well, but i couldnt wait until a 13 or 12 inch was released..! but the 17 inch is almost unnecessary for a notebook anyway

Well I took my 15" with me to Australia and at times I found it to be a bit heavy/cumbersome at times. For my next trip I think I'm just gonna get a used 12" powerbook instead.

So in my opinion, yes, but I'm sure you could do it.

Reading a bit on his site, you should take this advice seriously... it seems he 'roughs it' quite often. so much skiing...

PS: who is that fellow with the beard?

I know you're debating between the two sizes of MBPs, and if it's going to be your only computer, get the 15" for traveling.
However, I agree with others that really the way to go is a Macbook.
I travel to India with a refurbished Macbook and leave my MBP at home. The Macbook has been for me the most practical and carefree device for communication, writing, entertainment and photo management.
You have an awesome trip lined up. Best of luck to you.
