OMG this thread is giving me a migraine lol.

The reason Apple Watches only last 18-36 hours (depending on model) is because of the following:

1. Radios (WiFi, cellular) - and data transfer speeds
2. SoC/Processor - powerful but battery hungry
3. WatchOS - powerful for a watch OS, tasks running in the background, etc

Apple has clearly taken the iPhone route to designing the Watch, with the similar trajectory in terms of performance, efficient and functionality.

Garmins and similar watches may have nicer displays, but a few things to note:

1. The AMOLED versions last days at most. Only the MIP display models last weeks.
2. No cellular, and WiFi is a lot slower
3. Garmin OS is more a calculator type OS that runs JavaScript based apps vs WatchOS.
4. Apple intentionally handcuffs the Apple Watch to force a constant sync/tether with the iPhone, whereas Garmin watches cannot survive without a phone sync connection - the Watch isn’t powerful enough to be able to do anything with the raw data it collects.

Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Sincerely,
A Garmin user
