Is 1password still worth having....

I had standalone licences for Mac and Windows but 1Password only syncs with iCloud or Dropbox and since Dropbox imposed a 3 device limit, I found I couldn't sync between devices/computers without paying more. This became worse when I switched from iPhones to Android. I always found 1Password's synching clunky at best. Too many duplicates or delays in synching between iCloud and Dropbox.

I don't like how Bitwarden has a central server to store data rather than how 1Password managed it and Lastpass has been compromised once already but them's the breaks etc.

You can host Bitwarden yourself on your own computer. That way, nothing leaves your computer unless you want it to. Check the Bitwarden site.

For all those running and advocating Apple Keychain, what do you do when it doesn’t sync or doesn’t work at all? That scenario has happened more than once with Apple.

I still find Keychain cumbersome. Too many instances where it doesn’t work automatically for some websites and going in and retrieving the password manually is too much of a chore.

1Password for me. I have tried other password managers (msecure, Last pass and others) but 1Password seems to work the best for me. I have been using 1Password since it was a stand alone app. I am still using it as stand alone. I will eventually move to the subscription.

I'd suggest KeePass. It's freeware and esp. the KeePassXC incarnation works great on a mac. It also works in other browsers than safari.
It's also multi platform. So you'll find to for windows, for andriod, for iPhone, ...

For iPhone and iPad there is an implementation called "kypass" (to be paid one-time in the app store.
Works great and works with FaceID etc to unlock it so that you don't have to type long passphrases on an awkward keyboard.

To sync your encrypted file, you can use anything like dropbox (with the 3 device limit that's out for me), Google Drive, ...

Works great for me.

in addition to @s66's suggestions I personally also use KeePass - either in the shape of MacPass or KeeWeb with the Cupertino skin to make KeeWeb appear more a macOS app instead of the usual skins it provides. MacPass and KeeWeb share their KeePass database format and I can move between the applications should the desire arise. I have a made a key that I need to input along side the password for the vault.

Is enpass not recommended? I have tried that too, but switching between password managers isn't a good idea. I've lost some in the import from 1Password to Enpass to KeeWeb and MacPass over to Secrets. I however think I'm caught up now with the move to Secrets.
 
I've been using 1Password myself. Lot of the reasons other shared apply to me as well but especially these.
  • Mix of Windows, MAC and IOS devices
  • Keychain lacks a proper app & has less functionality around password requirements.
  • Lack of notes or comments area for additional relevant info.

If you are a 1Password user, sometimes a subscription is the best option. If you are a household with two or more Apple ID’s, then the family option, which requires a subscription, can make 1Password much easier to manage.

Keychain isn't good if you need cross platform password manager. Kwychain doesn't work on Windows, Android. So for that reason I'm still using 1Password.

There is no seperate standalone app which is different from subscribtion. This is absolutely same app but what licence you buying?

What happens to your passwords when you drop 1Password? How are you able to then access them?

Support is more worst then ever. They will push you to use subscribtion instead of one time purchase. This is what they done to me. I said many times can you give discount, or what is best price, they offered first 3 months free, after half year and latest offer was 1 year free subscribtion.

What I stated is fact.
Arguing with them because you want a better discount after x months free is not the proper way to engage a company you wish to do business with. If you want free, look elsewhere.

If you have a household with multiple Apple ID’s the 1Password stand alone license does not work very well.

For those advocating a non-subscription approach, you need to get past an implicit assumption of a single APPLE ID.
 
Besides using 1Password on my iPhone and iPad Pro, I also use it on my Mac mini. I wish I had the ability to unlock 1Password with my Apple Watch. It is a pain having to re-enter my long password many times a day.

I use Windows, Mac, and Android. As a result, having a dedicated password manager is key. 1Password serves this purpose very well.

I used LastPass before getting a Mac; however, when I got my Mac, I noticed LastPass no longer supported Touch ID. My preference would have been to remain with LastPass as the free version did all I needed; however, not having Touch ID pushed me to trying other platforms.

I've been a long time LastPass user but switched to KeepassXC. I did this for local control reasons and to save $12 a year on the premium account I had.

I have a Nextcloud instance setup on one of my domains and use that to sync to all my devices between home, work and mobile.

It's all setup and running (Nextcloud and Keepass) on the following:
  • Arch Linux (main PC)
  • Windows 10 (gaming PC)
  • Manjaro Linux (office PC)
  • Manjaro Linux (office laptop)
  • Android 10 (Google Pixel 3a)
  • iOS (older iPad Pro 9.7")
1Password and LastPass, to me, are basically the same thing with a different look and feel. Both are very good services and I'd recommend them to anyone who needs simple, easy to setup password management.

But for those who want more control and have a little bit of tech savvy and like open-source solutions, I recommend Keepass and Nextcloud on a domain you own and control. Or one can just use Keepass locally, offline, and be happy that way too.
