I think that's the same test - I was using his new username on gearlsutz. Pretty sure its TTOZ, since how many prolific posters from Melbourne can there be;-)?

I can't get past 73, and it runs at 3,2GHz when at 73.
Seems like that's 400$ i wasted then. :(

When running 50 tracks, CPU clock is 3,7-4,1 tho.

Same spec as yours, except its 2,9 as opposed to 2,2.

pretty sad i cant even break an additional track

for anyone still following this.
if i configed again, i'd pick 2.2ghz/32gb/560x/1tb. Now i have 2.9/2tb, and i paid 800$ for a non removable storage, (i could get same performance for less in external TB3 nVME) and 400$ for performance i can't utiilize.
I did plenty of research before buying ,looks like it wasnt enough... Could've had the same performance for 30% less cash. oh well. live and learn.

I think the 2.9 *might* have an edge when you're running lower track counts but *very* demanding VI + FX chains. If Logic's thread demands are above the 50% mark on all of the available cores and you add a track that wants more than 1/2 a core's worth of resources, that extra turbo of 500MHz on the i9 could be the difference between freezing and not. Not sure how likely that is to happen, but for someone running (for example) many Serum tracks in insane mode with Abbey Road verbs all over the place....maybe?

Edit - FWIW, I was totally up in the air about an i9 vs the 32GB. I picked the 32GB because I use VIs a lot, but I could have just as easily gone the other way. I think the i7 vs i9 utility very much depends on your workflow. Bursty workflows that do not utilize all cores will probably benefit from the i9, but more steady state things (like music production) will probably tend to even out.

We'll see! u-he repro 5 with 2C audio B2 used to nearly knock my 2012 retina out on a single core.
I went all in.

As far as the drive goes, the more likely "savings" would be 150$. :) so I "wasted" 550$ not 1200$ which is not all that much (nothing like a little self justification).

How are you happy with your machine for music by the way?

Sounds like that's an excellent argument for the extra turbo in the i9!

I've been troubleshooting some USB audio glitching (as you saw on logicprohelp), so that's been a big minus & timesink. In testing I've gotten it down to dropouts of about one every hour, but I haven't had a chance to really use it full out in a session yet. Testing/troubleshooting plus other life in the way as usual:rolleyes:

I've loaded some old sessions that were on the brink (95-100% utilization in Logic) with a 2014 2.8 i7, 16GB, 1TB and this new machine typically hovers around the 50-60% utilization in Logic, so that seems pretty good! I typically run a bunch of VIs (Kontakt, etc) with a bunch of FX (Waves, NI, IK, TDR, and the rest of the usual suspects). I'm not huge synth user (ala repro-5), so I had been running up against the number of threads/cores barrier rather than clockspeed barrier.

I'm hoping to get a chance to really use it for music this weekend:)
