Personally I think Apple would be wise to make 32GB the base model. Flash memmory has been dropping is cost, and I doubt it would harm the margins all that much. Being able to get a 128GB iPad for $700 would be a big seller IMHO.

It would cut into their profits tho... They make an extra $100 while costing them only about $8?. I believe they will be the very last to make 32gb standard if they ever do it. There are a lot of driod tabs/phones that come standard and even some windows but Apple will be the very last.

Keep in mind they also make money off their cloud storage for people who buy the 16gb and then figure out they dont have enough room.

You're correct, but in a growingly competative market Apple may have no choice but to ditch the 16BG for the 9.7". I'm not predicting Apple is about to do this, but I do think they could make up the loss in margins in increased sales and/or decreased losses to the competition (which leads to increased App and media sales).

I don't see Apple doing away with the 16GB option anytime soon unless they lower the price of the 32GB. That said, even though I never come close to filling up 64GB, that is the only size I will get for now.

I think that in time when they do go to 32gb this will be the reason but I think now no matter what the size of the hd people still buy an ipad bc its an ipad more so than wondering any specs. besides forums like these most people have no idea whats inside their gadgets and I honestly think thats how apple wants it.

We have a 32GB iPad3, and are considering an iPad 4, so that all our devices will have a common Lightning connection. I wanted to get a 16GB, but am realizing that 16GB is just not enough capacity. We have 11GB of music on the iPad, and only 1.8GB of free space left. So even if we did not load the music, we would need 22GB. Heck, Pinterest alone uses up 5.5GB.

Then there's IOS 7, and I'm sure it will use more free space.

So is 32GB slowly becoming the new minimum for iPads?

Thank you!

Many apps have already gone "Retina", with HD-quality graphics, the apps are becoming increasingly larger. What does that mean? A 16GB iPad/iPhone/iWhatever will be severely cramped for space more and more these days.

Getting at least a 32GB is a no-brainer.

This is an excellent point, Solomani, and it may be what pushes Apple to a new 32GB minimum standard.

I went for the 128GB ipad 4. No worries about storage. ;) The Retina display looks much better with HD movies, and they are easily 3-5GB each, and I love to watch movies. I also have 140 CD's on my iPad, and that takes up 18GB of space (lots of jazz and classical, and they tend to be larger than pop tunes). Books and pics don't take up much space on my iPad, but I put over 60GB on it the it was purchased.

My iPod 5G 64GB is good enough for videos and music, as its Retina display looks good with 500MB videos. In fact, I could probably get more acceptable quality video on the iPod than on the Ipad. ;)

The 13gb model is useless nowadays if you install apps that make use of the retina screen, (i say 13gb because that is what your actually getting, in fact, when you take into account the creeping "other" that eats another 2gb of space your actually getting nearer 10gb that the 16 you paid for)

Id say the 16gb iPhone and iPad both need killing off, or , apple need to put the OS and "other" on a separate internal 8Gb "boot" storage that we don't have access to , so that we actually get the space advertised.

i notice Microsoft with the Surface RT at least state clearly that a good portion of your 64/128 gb storage is taken up by the OS.

Apple is just very greedy. The prices of flash storage has gone down considerably and the base-model has just 16GB storage and they charge $100 for another 16GB. Thats just rip-off:rolleyes:

32GB should be the minimum.
