do you need all that all the time?

That is a very good question. Of course if music/movie lovers want to put everything they have into the iPod touch, even a 1TB model may not be good enough. Is it easy to swap several music and video folders between the iPod Touch and the Mac? If so, the 32GB model may be good enough for me. If not, maybe I should go for the 64GB model just in case. How likely will Apple offer a camera upgrade kit to users of the latest iPod touch models? If similar things have been done before (I recall reading something about wifi/bluetooth upgrades), the 64GB model may be a better choice.

As a lot of people have said: It really depends on your library size and what you want to do with it. I like having about 2-3 movies on my ipod and maybe a video podcast or 2. My music library is only about 10gb max, and I only listen to about 2gb of that. 32 is perfect for me. 64 is a bit more expensive and this would be what I would look at after I have determined that 32 is perfect.

The ipod is a closed system (i.e. not user accessible and voids your warranty if it's opened). Apple would come out with new ipods before they issued an "upgrade kit". I doubt they would refresh the iPod touch before Christmas to avoid another iPhone price-lowering-like repeat of angry customers. I could see them doing a small refresh in Jan though to the touch to add the camera. I could also see them holding off until next year too...

My 32GB 2nd gen touch is crowded now because of favorite movies, certain episodes of some TV shows, a handful of music videos and video podcasts, a large bunch of audio books, a ton of music and a few Kindle books, couple games and other apps.

So I do want the 64GB if I can work out how to balance my budget and still get my share of the four major food groups (rice, beans, tea and coffee). If not, then I will have to cycle movies on and off the 32GB one to make newer or reloaded choices fit.

I love watching video product on an iPod touch. I like it better than fullscreen on a laptop. Actually when I watch video on my computers, I usually shrink the windows to roughly iPod size and stick them in a corner of the screen. OK I'm weird but I'm not alone, Apple is banking on it.

Let's hear it for 256GB ipod touch in 2012... zettabtye flash in 2018...

Quite simply, no!

I am yet to buy any device that incorporates some form of storage that I have not eventually filled to capacity.

Considering the demand for more and more storage (Which is huge), I assume I am not alone...

My 8 GB nano finally filled up. Well there's 66 MB left, actually.

I've got a few solutions:

1. My mom has a purple nano 4G 16 GB. I could use that, but I don't like the color.

2. Buy a new iPod. It'd be either a classic or 32 GB touch. It is sort of getting to be that time. Although I am saving for a new camera.

3. Stick with the one I've already got and clear some stuff off. The problem with this is I like to take a fair amount of music and all new podcasts and all my TV shows and a lot of pictures.

smart playlists help, but I really like having a lot of pictures and a couple videos too. My poor 8GB iPod Touch is busting at the seams. A 64 GB model would be awesome. It'd hold pretty much all my music and photos and a couple vids on top. Go for the gold!

I used to have an 80GB classic till it died on me, i then spent ages pondering which ipod to get to replace it. i had a 32GB touch for a while before upgrading to a lower capacity iPhone. I realised that i was putting things on there for the sake of it. I had a few tv shows and movies but i really used it for music 95 percent of the time and there was few albums i would listen to the whole way through. So i became more picky and i have found a happy medium. Plus the fact the 32GB iPhone was so expensive helped in that decision :D

Just to add my 2¢, I held off getting the touch until I felt it was large enough to accommodate my needs. I saw the device as a portable computer and thought it to be a surrogate to my main machine. Since there are apps that will allow the user to upload different file types (pdfs), I can store things other than music and video. So, when you consider the capabilities of the device, 64 GB isn't overkill but just the current limit of the technology.

Can I use the iPod Touch to make Keynote and PowerPoint presentations as if I were using them on a MBP? If so, I should go for the 64GB model. When I tried the iPhone in a store, I noticed that when I visited a site with several QuickTime videos posted, Safari could only play back one video at a time. Also, the video being played back occupied the entire screen. Not sure if this problem occurs when using Keynote and PowerPoint on the iPodTouch. In general, can I run all the applications written for the Mac on the iPod Touch?

No way. 64 gb is great if you want apps and video.

You're right on the video, but most apps are about 1MB (and many are less), so using that avarage, even having 100 apps would only take up 100MB, much less than a gigabyte.

Of course games are bigger, but even then they're usually only about 20MB.

You therefore don't need 64GB for apps at all.

Just had to point that out :p
