The 4 gb x 2 option from Apple is $200. OWC is $279 for the same. Realize that I'd have the 2gb x 2 from Apple if I upgraded with OWC, but doesn't this seem to be a decent deal from Apple? And for the big question, does 8 GB's of ram give you a noticeable boost in performance over 4 GB's?

It's 200$ for 4x2GB and 400$ for 2x4GB. If you buy it with the stock 2x2GB and buy 2x4GB from OWC, you get 12GB so that's definitely the best deal in my opinion. You could buy just 1x4GB from OWC so you would still have one empty slot for future upgrades.

The boost depends on what do you do. For an average Joe, it won't make a difference but if you do a lot multitasking, it's definitely worth it, but not from Apple.

My bad. I must be getting dyslexic. $200 option is 4 x 2gb as opposed to 2 x 4GB. 2nd poster is absolutely correct. That kind of answers my question on the value of the Apple offering.

Only if you needed more RAM in the first place. ;)

jwp333, What are you planning on doing that you think you might need 8GB of RAM?

I payed about $240 for my 2x4GB DDR3-1333. If Apple would have updated me for $200, I would have done it. The 2x1GB I took out of my Mac and have stocked now are nearly worthless.

On the other hand, if Apple updates your from 2x2GB (Worth ~$130) to 2x4GB for $200, I would get the RAM myself for $240 and sell the RAM that came with my Mac on eBay even for $100, would made me save $60 and the RAM has lifetime warranty, I guess Apples RAM only has warranty under AppleCare.
