Is 802.1X supported

Campus IT are saying that the iPhone can't access our WiFi systems due to the lack of support for 802.1X.

Anyone know for sure.

Currently there is no support for 802.1x.

A better answer is "not currently" but I spoke with a Sr. iPhone Engineer who assured me this will be addressed and hopefully in the first update. He admited it was a huge oversight on Apple's part but they did not realize how wide spread 802.1X authetication was. In fact, it took an hour to escalate me through a series of levels to a person that even knew what it was and he readily admitted the iPhone "should have probably supported it out of the box" since OS X does as well as every Windows machine and wi-fi enabled smartphone/pda.
