just got 8GB from newegg.ca, for any fellow canadians looking for RAM this is the place to go even cheaper than tigerdirect.ca, since they are located in New Jersey i didnt even have to pay tax unlike a canadian website.

ordered late Wednesday and recieved them this morning - very fast delivery

just thought id let my fellow Canadians know becasue in the past neweggs website only showed delivery to the United States, so this Canadian version of the site it either new or the newegg.com site isnt set up to direct Canadians to it

I paid around $28 for 8GB of RAM from Newegg a few weeks ago. I'm not noticing that much of a difference on my 2010 13" MBP, but I still think the upgrade was worth it.

The biggest issue is what to do with the 4GB of RAM I removed, as it's not worth much and probably won't sell on ebay. We have an older white MacBook I would have liked to put it in, but it uses a different type of RAM.

i didn't run parallels most of the time. only transmission, safari, while iTunes is synching with my iPhone. then launch outlook. 4gb isn't that sufficient enough for me on OSX lion. hence i've bought 8gb ram from other stores which is really cheap and great compared if i've bought it from the apple store

Upgrading RAM in computers has been easy for like, 20 years now. It's not rocket science.

*ahem* I'm all for being rational and somewhat harping on people who post redundant topics or blatantly ignorant posts, but that wasn't really needed.

I installed my ram on a school table while waiting for my Organic Class to start. No guides needed.

PS: the inside of a MBP looks amazing; definitely showed the ladies at my table when I opened it up. :)

This is a pretty simple question which you can answer on your own. Just go to Activity Monitor (Utilities folder, which is in your Application folder) and look at the page out number. If it's high (mine is 0), and you notice sluggish behavior in your computer, it's time for some more ram.

The "it's not rocket science" wasn't needed either, was it? And I fail to see how ANYTHING in the sentence

Is a fact. At all. There are no facts in that sentence. Not a single one.

Well, maybe the rocket science part, but that's somewhat irrelevant.

Good day sir.

Yes it was needed because it implies how easy upgrading RAM is. Claiming what I said were not facts is completely wrong. I had an Amiga 2000 computer 20 years ago and I was easily able to replace the RAM. The process was not as complicated as rocket science.

If any of following words look familiar, get 8gb.
Virtualization
RAW image editing
Video editing
heavy Multi-tasking
multiple internet browsers with flash
gaming

I think I need 8 gigs.

OSX's UNIX core is way better at memory management than people give it credit for. I notice this regularly when I run the same amount of stuff on my 4gb Air as I do on my 8gb Pro, and I notice NO perceptible difference in performance. Part of this may be the SSDs, so that swapping is happening so quickly that it doesn't drag the system down.

For some people, 8gb and even 16gb would be great. If I had 16, I would definitely make use of it. I do try to limit myself to only one Windows virtualization on the Air, but I've done up to three on the Pro when needed (which is rare).

Still, with RAM as cheap as it is, you can upgrade to 8gb for about $70 from NewEgg. I'd say it's worth it. If I could upgrade my Air to 8 fairly cheaply, I would.

I think I managed to take both side of the debate. Well, it's like 4 AM so oh well. :)

It's almost the point where it's so cheap that you should get it just in case some program could utilize it at some point...

Virtualization (check, well...rarely but I have it if needed)
RAW image editing (check)
Video editing (check)
heavy Multi-tasking (check. Required multi-tasking? No.)
Multiple internet browsers with flash (check, and no comment)
gaming (check)

Yeah, going to pick up my RAM today. Had it mailed to a friends house while I was there, but ended up leaving before it arrived. Apparently there's a 3 day processing time at newegg before the next-day air shipping clock starts.

I can't comment much on other tasks, but 8Gb of ram comes handy, almost required, with virtualization and is definitely worth the ~$35.

Yes, but I installed mine when the mbp's straight out of the box, so can't really compare :p

Thanks for the heads-up about 8GB increasing the VRAM to 512MB. I just confirmed it on my 13" MBP.

It's a nice bonus! :D

4GB falls kinda short for me. I only do regular browsing but my memory usage after a day is around 4.5 to 5 GB.

With the prices of 8GB(which is what I currently have installed) I really see no reason not to buy 8GB.

This um... could be solved by simply quitting and relaunching the application. Or hitting "purge" in the terminal. ****** coding doesn't necessarily mean you need more RAM.
