As per title, it says on the ATV page that a 4K cable is required. Is this really the case? I’ve read a Cnet article saying 4K hdmi cables are pointless for the most part

The ATV 4k can be picky with cables. I used a six foot $6 CAD Amazonbasics cable and it worked perfectly. I tried a high-priced Belkin and it caused random sparkles during playback.

You can get a great HDMI cable from Monoprice for under $10 bucks, so why not get one that's 4K rated to avoid issues?

Agree Apple TV is one of the worst devices for good HDMI cables next to the Roku so yes if you are going 4K and HDR those cheap cables are no good. You have to buy the more expensive cables or suffer random black screens or no video. However those monoprice are the best ones you can get at the cheapest.

I'd be happier if they included an HDMI cable instead of the lightening cable. Then make the remote charge wirelessly either from the appletv itself or from QI standard like the iPhones do.

I'd be okay with this since we have so many lightning cables around the house. I'm pretty sure that we have not even removed the lightning cables packaged with the ATV from the box.

I can’t speak for everyone’s experience but I just plugged my Apple TV 4K in with the existing hdmi lead I was using on my Apple TV 4. It cost me about £4 on amazon and 4K hdr works fine, not a single issue so far.

My advise would be try one of your existing cables as it may save you some money.

I went with this one and am really happy with it. Nice build quality. Good price.
