Note that the base M1 Air is currently on sale for $899. It is a vastly more capable computer than the i3 one. I do not think the $100 savings is worth it.

I think the i3 Air would be worth it if it was priced around $500-600 and battery life, processing, and graphics were not all that important to the person buying it.

Who is selling it for that price? Certainly not Apple.
At that price, it might cause me to pull the trigger that much sooner...

Ooops! It looks like for some reason I was in the education store when I was looking at pricing and availability and assumed it was a holiday pricing sales event. Sorry about that!

Costco's getting desperate. Now the i3 Air is $699. The i5 Air is $799. Still think the M1 Air is a much better value at $999. Wonder what Apple is going to do with all their unsold i3 and i5 Airs...

Costco just started a sale today for the base 2020 i3 Air--$799 brand new. Lowest price I've ever seen, even lower than an Apple refurb ($809 I think.) Curious if you think that's a "must buy" price or if forking out $200 more for the base M1 Air is worth the extra cash spent.
Jumped from 4mo old 2020 MBA to a 2020 M1 MBA two weeks ago.
The M1 in much, much faster, noticeable on startup, restarts, and general usage.
As I've noted elsewhere, its also not been free of glitches from running extremely hot on occasion to crashing Safari repeatedly due to "memory exceeded" issues.
As others have stated though, it renders the prior version obsolete unless you just want an internet machine for half the price.

$500 would be a good price. Otherwise better battery + better proc + better graphics + no fan + faster SSD makes M1 a MUCH better deal.

Probably recycle what they can and resell what they can't.

The 2020 Intel Airs had thermal issues galore. Plus the Y-series chips never were great for much of anything. I'd say that $650 is the minimum I'd consider getting one for; but even then, with the aforementioned thermal issues, I'd probably just skip it altogether. The 2018-2020 (Intel) Airs were unfortunately not great.

Why would they recycle? They can always sell at clearance. They could also use them for warranty, so instead of doing repairs just offer customers a new replacement unit if there’s really that much oversupply (which I very much doubt).

I was more rolling with the assumption that they don't sell off clearance stock. They don't typically replace whole units under warranty. Not like they do with iPods, iPads, Apple TVs, Watches, and other such things. Was more suggesting they'd recycle the parts should they have THAT much trouble selling them. Though I don't believe it will come to that. At $699, there will be Intel MacBook Airs being sold to people that just don't care but want a Mac on the cheap.
