This might be a dumb question, but: are felt deskpads bad for computers and laptops? For example I really like this one from Grovemade but I’m worried something made from wool felt could cause a static-electric discharge from moving the computer around on it too much. Am I just being paranoid?

I've always avoided putting my laptop on anything like that because of dust vs static, I wouldn't worry about static. While very nice I think a product like that would, over time, release a lot of fibers and dust around a laptop. I could be way off on that but I might be paranoid too.

PS - Love the Phish reference!

I always try to distance my laptop from fluffy things.

Thanks! Nice to see a fellow Phan here. Can’t wait for Alpine this summer!

Looks like most users agree a felt desk pad isn’t really bad for laptops. The main concern is just dust buildup, not static or damage. If you keep it clean, it’s generally considered safe to use.
