I never used a laptop for my gen eds. I had one, but never brought it with me. But now that im at a university and im a psych major, i takes pages of notes a day in each class. Not to mention, some professors post the notes in powerpoint so you can have the notes already and pay attention more. But a netbook would be fine. There is really no need for a MBP for general ed. There is really no need even after, i just got a mbp because a lot of the computers at my school are macs. And because of some of the other programs i use out of school.

Thanks for the input from everyone!
I think I'm going to buy the iMac and see how things go in college to gauge if I need a cheap laptop or not.

besides, by the time your a junior, there should be much better equipped mb and mbps. U know, matte screens etc. Im glad i didnt get one when i was a freshmen. B/c then i wouldnt have got the mac i have now, which i believe is the perfect combo of features, and it basically still has the latest processor.

no it is hardly needed for college

in fact, id argue you could get by without a computer as long as you lived on/near campus

Eh, yah true. I lived 5 miles from my 2yr. school. But it wasnt open till 1am like the computer labs at my university. Bacically anything that will use word will work.

It's really convenient to have a laptop for college. If I were you I would pick up the new 13" MBP. It's light, very portable, and plenty powerful enough.

Depends on your major and how much you love being on teh interwebz

I'm an Interactive Media major so of course i'm going to say yes. If you are an underwater basket weaver who doesn't live on the comp then no maybe not.

BUT! Remember now an MBP costs the same as an iMac. So choose wisely ;)

I would highly recommend a laptop, but IT IS NOT necessary. I have a friend that doesn't even own a computer, does everything in the computer lab and gets straight As. :D
