[doublepost=1510177215][/doublepost]I have this feeling Apple will refuse to release airplay 2 until HomePods are ready to ship.

What device do you have with Airplay 2? I don’t know of any on market.

IFAIK HomePod, will be the first, and its not available yet.

I thought I would be able to use two Apple TVs to output to two digital audio speaker sets.

I don’t think that’s how it works. You can control multiple Airplay 2 speakers at once, not send audio to two Apple TVs at once. AirPlay 2 does what iTunes can already do, just on an iPhone.

I could be wrong, but I haven’t seen otherwise.

Are you sure about that? I was fairly sure iTunes could do that.. I’ll try when I’m home later.

I have three Apple TVs in my house. When I start playing on one, and then attempt to add the "check" next to the second one, playback stops on the first.

Maybe its a bug? But it has never worked for me.

There are two tabs on Airplay on iTunes. One for a single device and one for multi. You're just on the wrong one.

Eh? There is only one Airplay section in iTunes. I can select an Apple TV and Airport Express, I cannot select both Apple TVs.

It’s already on iOS. The receiving speaker needs to have AirPlay 2 and so far there aren’t any, other than AppleTVs on a tVOS beta.
My Apple TVs are update and don’t have the functionality. Are you sure it’s on in the beta? Maybe I will upgrade
