I currently have an iphone 6, but I also have an iphone 5 sitting in a drawer in my room as a backup. I am considering using the iphone 5 as a dedicated remote control and a source for airplay videos to my Apple TV (will be getting the new one.) Will there be any difference in video quality using the iphone 5 vs the 6? Does the updated hardware offer any benefits when it comes to streaming?

no benefits really, In theory when you start to airplay, all the phone sends is a link to the media, and the aTV streams it directly. (airplay mirroring is a whole different story though)

what apps are you watching?
it might make a difference, but not sure.
