Just curious if Android users are ready for Google to change it up or are they mostly content for now. Thoughts?

Are you an iOS user? Android has always had the option to apply themes. Rooting and flashing mods onto it to change the whole UI. Besides each UI is different depending on the type of phone, HTC, Samsung, Motorolla all run their own UI on the same versions of Android

I hope they don't waste their time like Apple did on changing icons and backgrounds, god what a humungous waste of time, energy, talent and money.

Google has a LOT they need to focus on IMO. They need to continue to decouple their OS from the carriers. They need to get a stock launcher up onto the Play store. They need to have a backup system that competes with Apple's. They need a Siri competitor.

But to answer your question, I'm pretty happy with it because it's customizable. We don't have to wait for a new UI/Theme like with iOS, we can always apply what we want or create our own.

Android got a complete UI overhaul 2 years ago with Android 4.0.

Since then its been slight tweaks, I think 4.4 will change more than than 4.1/2/3 have but itlll just be tweaks again.

I actually have seen some threads in this forum advocate a UI overhaul and was completely shocked.....

Not only are there numerous themes, launchers, icon packs etc - but what's wrong with stock Android's look now? Sure some OEMs could stand to update the look of their skins (Samsung!!!!!!!!!!) but stock Android is perfectly fine IMO.

yes, dont waste time on this

under the hood optimizations and more features please

separation from oems and carriers would be the best thing in the entire world, but I'm not holding my breath, particularly from carriers and especially from Verizon the lockdown king (no nexus (or GE) for you)

We've already seen the 4.4 leaks showing the UI changes, and they aren't small. These are the biggest changes since ICS.

Android Police has a poll asking if people like the new changes, and out of 11,489 responses so far, 75% are in favor of the changes. So, that should answer the OP. Many Android users are ready for change.

A backup system comparable to Apple's (they're easily capable of this), under the hood improvements (4.3 was great in that regard), and giving the finger to carriers should be their main priority.

The visual changes seem to be in flux, though. Each new leak has a different look and tweaks, so it's hard to tell what we'll see. From the main leak with the transparent background in the app drawer, I definitely like the new look and direction. It's colorful, and the iffy icons notwithstanding, definitely a welcome direction.

Big improvement if true. Current raw android ranks pretty high on the horrendous scale.

The leaked UI changes look positive so far. Not sure I like the phone icon but easily replaceable.

The changes seem very minor to me. I'm indifferent about the changes. I use Nova Prime anyway, so I don't think the visual changes really affect me that much other than the icons. As long as I recognise the icons for what they are, I don't really care.

Launchers and icons only change the home screen, a UI overhaul would change everything. Most Android users do not care about flashing ROMs to change the UI to their liking nor should they care at all, it should be on Google to create a good looking system in the way that Apple has done.

I think Stock Android is butt ugly but to each his own

True. But the ability to use 3rd party apps as default apps can also create a diff look and UI overall over Google's own stock Android apps.

I'm generally content with Android as is. I say 4.0 and 4.1 were pretty major updates as is. It only took 3 years for Android to get a makeover with ICS while iOS took double the time, so it isnt long overdue.

And Android has always been a patchwork of art. Even if I didnt like certain things about the new makeover, I can always change it. It is a USER's OS while iOS makes the "i" of lesser importance as Apple needs to spoon feed creative ideas and taste to us. To many, Apple knows best what to give us or not. Their call mostly. With Android, the better ideas, tweaks, and theming come from us like the hackers, users, and app developers.

I would really like a iTunes competitor for managing apps and content.

No its not. It got its makeover in 4.0 and the current ui is great. Well atleast the stock ui is. The holo ui still looks great and modern. I hope nothing major is changed with that. Just add in some core features.
