The only thing missing is GPS. For that I may have to wait until Kindle Paperwhite gets a GPS chip or Garmin licenses Amazon's technology.
Since you like multiple devices, just get a standalone GPS. They are pretty cheap these days.
You do realise that the price "up front" you pay for the iPhone is only a part of the total cost of the phone?!
Do you honestly think that any member of this forum doesn't know what a cell phone is? And you put a rolleyes in your post?! It's time to get over it and accept that average people have cellphones. Seriously.

I think WilliamLondon was referring to rjbruce's comment that the prices of the iPhone and the iPod Touch were the same. Obviously they are not.

Actually I wonder about your comment wondering if WilliamLondon thinks that members of the forum don't know what a cell phone is. I don't think he tried to define a cell phone. And, why did you think that WilliamLondon needs to "accept that average people have cellphones"? Did he say he didn't accept that?

Chill.

Yes!

Absolutely. I've owned a 3rd gen iPod Touch since 2009 and have been waiting for Apple to come out with a good enough update for me to want to upgrade.
That update has now arrived. :D

The 6th gen iPhone, especially in black just looks awesome, as does Google maps. However as far as phone updates go there really isn't enough of an update to make me want to go out and buy one. I had seriously been considering getting one but again, no deal breaker found here.

The 5th gen iPod Touch now has SIRI which is what I had been hoping for plus the dual core A5 processor that debuted in the iPhone 4s.
The iPT is now even more awesome and virtually as good as the iPhone 4s except of course that it doesnt have the phone function nor GPS. And as most of my friends and family have devices with iMessage, Facetime, Skype etc we hardly use the 'phone' function anymore. WiFi hotspots are everywhere these days, at work, shopping malls, cafes/restaurants, airports and numerous free hotspots throughout the city and suburbia.
Plus there are apps, including Skype, that turn your iPT into a phone so that you can call landlines and other cell phones using VoIP. These apps also free you from being locked into 12mth or 24mth contracts with your local telco. Skype I believe has a 1 month minimum contract. Nice!

Having considered all of the above and that the iPT is way cheaper than iPhone, it will be a black iPod Touch for me. :)

What is crippled about it?
The software and hardware is crippled, compared to many (not all) Android devices. I like the design of the new iPod touch and of the iPhone 5. That is not the problem. The lack of hardware/software options (especially in the future) on the Apple platform is the problem. So the question for me is no longer "iPod touch 5th Gen. or iPhone 5", if i can get the functionality of both in the Galaxy Note II.

I don't want a contract and don't care about 4g. Phones and iPods aren't made to be for pro photography so the camera in the iPhone doesn't matter to me, so the iPod touch 32 GB, for the same price as the iPhone 32 GB, is perfect in my opinion

Now, if only they would put a speaker on the top so it could be held like a phone, Then it would be the perfect VOIP device.

Maybe if it was held upside down.... :)

No phone is a deal breaker. Also the processor is not the same, nor the camera. The iPod looks pretty sweet, but given the iPhone is the same price on contract and has more packed in, that's what I ordered.

uhh...not really the "same" price....that iPhone on contract will cost you big bucks - iPod use is free.

No, I said that. That would be my analysis of his post. That's how it works when I type something, it comes from me.

He tried to define a cell phone user. As someone that doesn't use a cell phone. I'm still trying to wrap my thoughts around that conundrum. Maybe it was a typo? If so, I apologize for my manner. But if not:

While everybodies in a 10 hour line for the iPhone 5, I will walk through all of them buy an iPod with a "u mad bro?" face, can't wait.

+1. I understand why it needed to change, and when the rumors were $10 for an adapter that was one thing, but at $30 that means one in each car is $60 instead of $20.

The old iPhone may need to be a dedicated music player for a bit until I get over the heartburn of the adapter.

I'm sure there will be a plethora of 3rd party connectors in a very short time and their cost will be minimal. I don't see this as much of a hurdle.

If history is any indicator of the future, it won't be "a very short time". It took quite a while for 3rd party cables and adapters to become available for the current connector... and even with THAT, there are issues. The minimal cost connectors are more susceptible to the dreaded "charging is not supported with this accessory".

The new connector is indeed a significant hurdle for early adopters. I'm taking a "wait and see" approach to it.

No way. Point and shoot offer so much more than phones.

So much more than an iPod touch with web access and the ability to run apps? No way.

And I'm specifically talking about the average I-Just-need-something-that-takes -decent-photos crowd for low end point and shoots. Basically, the majority of what we sell at my work.

This is the first step, but once were a generation or two further its going to be hard to find the value in a device that only takes decent pictures.

Does that make sense?

I use my phones camera for everyday fun shots, but for specific occasions and events, vacations my point and shoot is handy. I see your point but it's far away. Also optical zoom wont be on phones for a long time.

Fan of two independent devices so yeah I may buy the new ipod touch especially with the processor update, the 4th gen is a poor performer these days.

Reason I prefer two devices vs one? Battery life is significantly better. Honestly phones and players are so small (thin) these days I have plenty of pocket space for two devices.
