I have an iPhone XR and I really cant think of anything apple could offer to make me upgrade from this. If I cast my mind back to when I got my first iPhone (4) I remember thinking about what my perfect phone would be. And it would be a larger edge to edge display with a great battery life. Well I have that now. Nothing else fundamentally changes the day to day use of the phone.

I don't care about more cameras since I don't take many pictures anyway. I don't care about oled, I don't care about 5g (normally on wifi most places I go and when I'm out and about not normally staring at my phone), smaller notch would be nice but isn't going to change anything in my usage. I mean I'm really struggling to think of what I want in a phone now. The only thing id really want is for it to be lighter as I don't like the weight (but then would lose battery life so its a compromise I'm willing to deal with).

Just as a disclaimer this is MY use case. Im well aware there are some people who cant live without 3 cameras, oled etc. But for me, I don't think ill be upgrading for a while.

Anyone else feel the same?

Well, I'm still happily using my 8 Plus, which barring something unforeseen will be at least 3 years old by the time I replace it.

Prior to that I used a 6 for over 3 years. I really don't see a point in upgrading every year or two. At this point phones have gotten sophisticated enough that yearly improvements aren't substantial and 3 or even 4 year old phone can still effectively do just about everything that a new one can. So I usually keep my phone until one comes that I think will feel like a substantial improvement.

Well let's see...my iphone 11 lasted 2 days, then 2 11 Pro's each lasted 5 days. But, my SE's been around for 3 years and counting, battery still 100%

I'm trying to have that mentality, but in all truthfulness, I'm hating ATT and it looks like I'll do what it takes to move back to VZW next year so I'll be getting a new phone then

I went to the 11 Pro Max after attempting to go back to Android (Note 10+) from an XR and hating it. The XR honestly is a pretty solid phone. In retrospect I would have been just fine hanging onto it, but I had previously loved Android and switched to appease my wife.

The only thing I want is legitimate periscope zoom. Like at least 5x. A guy at work and I have talked about this extensively. If you have kids, and you show up to something like an awards program or anything, and aren't in the first few rows, pictures typically look awful because of the extreme lighting from stage-lights. Don't care about the notch, bezels, or anything else. I would like to hang on to this for 4 years or so, unless something radical comes out I just can't live without (probably not happening). I think I might go back to having a point and shoot camera, as upgrading every few years isn't worth it.

Edit: I too care nothing about 5G. Sounds good in theory, but I still get spotty 4G sometimes, so why would I care about shorter distance 5G?

Yes I do hang onto my iPhone for long time
iPhone 4 2010 - 2012
iPhone 5 2013 - 2017
iPhone 7 2017 - 2019
iPhone XS MAX one year counting at lets see how long it lasts.

Eh, the only one of those you've held on to for a long time appears to be the iPhone 5.

Yeah, two years is not long at all when phones are concerned.

It depends on what Apple releases in future years but I think I'll hold onto my iPhone 11 for at least 4 to 5 years at the very least. I may change my mind at some point though.

Yes, an iPhone 4G that I was given a few months ago (dumped and forgotten about by a family member).
I just installed a new battery for a few dollars, and purely as a telephone (isn't that what they're for?) it works a treat.
I certainly don't need it for photos (have a superb Sony 6400 for that), and especially not for sending/receiving sms's - can't stand 'em!
Looks still like new, the original box is available, and as a phone it will still be functional for years to come, a fashion-freak I am NOT.

I have been updating every year for 8+ years, but when I got my XR I said I was going to hold on to it. In the past we would cycle though to the wife and I would get the newer phone then sell her old one. We did this because she does not really care about the latest and greatest and this flow worked fine for us. Well life happened and we needed to get my son his first phone and I really liked the camera upgrades of the 11 pro. I gave him the Xr and I got the 11 Pro Max in the 512 gb because I knew I would have the phone for the next several years and I am also taking lots of 4k video. I honestly plan to keep this one for myself becaise it is the first phone that has felt like the complete package for me with no compromises.

I should've hung onto my X for 3 years. I am on the IUP program and decided that if the 2020 model has a more iPhone 4-5ish squared design I will be keeping it for more than 2 years. Its not like the old days when you'd get a good S update then a whole new design on year 2.

For me, it all depends on what the future iPhones will be like, but if things stay similar to how it has been, I will keep my iPhone SE until it dies.

I am not a phoneaholic like many people seem to be. I do take my iPhone with me when I leave the house, but when I am home or sitting at my desk at work, I would much rather use a computer than a phone. Actually, when I am at home, my phone typically sits in a central location on a table, and it usually stays there unless I get a phone call.

I don't need the latest iPhone, but if a new iPhone came out that was on the smaller size similar to the SE, I might get it.

I have the 11 Pro, I didn't upgrade every year but maybe every two. I use every Apple feature imaginable from Apple Pay to all the iCloud services. Usually its some must have feature that I want out of a new iPhone. With the 11 Pro for me in particular, it had to be the battery life. I don't care much for cameras really, but it was a nice addition. If the next iPhone is just more camera upgrades, and same old same old, I am going to keep this one another year or two.

5G isn't even enticing for me either, so they gotta do more than that.

I started my Apple journey with the iPhone 4s, a week or so after it was released. I currently have the iPhone XR and I'm hoping to hold on to it for at least 4 more years. I just don't currently have a need for any other features on a phone.

I have a similar iPhone history:

iPhone 2g 2007-2011
iPhone 4s 2011-2013
iPhone 5s 2013-2015
iPhone 6s+ 2015-2017
iPhone SE 2017-present

I would have kept the 5s longer, but my wife cracked her iPhone screen and I gave her my 5s as a replacement. I also thought that I would have liked the larger 6s Plus screen, but that ended up being the worse part about it. I got an iPhone SE as soon as the 128GB version launched.

iPhone 3 2009-2010
iPhone 4 2010-2014
iPhone 6 2014-Present (Still own, using Verizon Visible to use as Home Phone# to keep At&t# Private
iPhone X 2017-Present (Still own, switch between this and iPhone XS Max for pocket relief)
iPhone XS Max 2018-Present

Wait to see what 2020 Holds... No hurry.

Had my 6 Plus since launch and used it up till Feb 2019
Had an iPhone 7 for a couple months but just didn’t like it.
Got my iPhone 11 which is the kind of upgrade I was looking for and plan on using this phone for a few years.
