If the x had a home button it would be easy. Now, I am having trouble deciding which to get. Or I guess if the 8 plus has the better screen it would be easier as well. Decisions, decisions.
No trouble at all in making a choice.
The 8 Plus will be here tomorrow. I've been using Plus phones for 3 years... I'm used to it. I like the Touch ID. I like the screen size.
The X brings neither of those.
The Plus shares the same processor as the X.
Easy choice.

What matters is not what the home button does, but what it was designed to do. If there is an another way to do it that makes room for more screen, then there is nothing to be missed.
You don’t do change well I take it. What do you think phones will be in ten years? They will all have full screen displays. Buttons are on the way out.Just me, but no TouchID, obstructed view, equals waiting to see what next year brings. Sadly that makes the longest time not upgrading my iPhone which I did every year like clockwork until the 7.
I never minded the bezels, in fact I felt the home button and bezels were almost iconic for Apple. Bezels could have shrunk, that would have been cool, but trying edge to edge appears to be just trying to copy others instead of continuing to focus on user interface and usability.
The bottom of screen on the X is actually harder to reach for me, especially the left corner. Smaller bezels would have been the best move to me, I wish the would have shrunk the bezels on the 8 plus for more dramatic redesigned.
When you see an iPhone, it’s unmistakably Apple, looking at my iPad Pro now the bezels and home button are really part of the design, and you know what, I like it.
