It’s faster than my iPad Pro 10.5”, but only for that initial spike. It will throttle for heat meaning the ipads will get longer sustained performance.

Also, the benchmarks push th phone or use all 6 cores, which Apple says is now possible due to the 2nd generation controller, but it's optimize for battery life, not benchmarks. In day to day performance you won’t see many differences until iOS 13 or so.

Placebo effect? Looks like maybe ios11/iphone8 isn't that optimized yet?

I just watched this video too. Too bad he isn't running 10.3.3 on the 7 plus. The 7 would destroy the 8 even more because iOS 10.3.3 does not have the home button lag when closing apps introduced in iOS 11.

Yeah that was painful watching the home button lag! People with a 7 who updated to iOS 11 or an 8 have to feel that. 10.3.3 is so much quicker and fluid.

Surprising the 7 is actually faster even with iOS 11 though compared to the 8! Weird.

Its kind of like when someone puts a bunch of "racing" stickers on their car and all of a sudden its faster....yea.
I think it’s more someone strapped on a honking big turbo on their car and now it’s as fast as a Ferrari in a straight line but still can’t match it for handling and cornering.

:)

So…I can tell my boss to ditch the MacPro and buy an iPhone? I can attach a keyboard, mouse and three monitors? Will it run InDesign? What's the integration into a Windows server environment?

I think it's great we all have this now, I just fail to see how the supercomputer in my pocket replaces my desktop computers. Some people out there may have a use but I see a solution in search of a problem.

So I guess you can make faster phone calls now?

No need to get snarky with me. That’s completely unprovoked and uncalled for. If you don’t like the topic content then see yourself out.

I'm sure the A11 rocks. However, I will be waiting for 2018 iPhone/A12 since a phone is a sum of all its parts instead of just the SoC. I would really want a non-plus iPhone with all the niceties of the plus model (3GB RAM or more, dual camera, etc). The X is, but it's a first gen device, so I'll wait for the mainstream 2018 iPhone (hopefully Apple trickle down all those specs to the regular size iPhone by then).

In the meantime, considering the 6S is still faster than the Galaxy S8, I'm not in a hurry to upgrade.

I want to see someone test iOS 11.0 vs iOS 10.0, 10.3.3 has been polished in its entirety. It’s not a true comparison. iOS 10 has been out for over a year. And iOS 11 for only 3 months. Give it a rest people....

I am not surprise by the speed. Apple has clearly shown that they have the ability to marry CPU and GPU into one chip and have it slaughter the competition (at least in bechmarks). No other company has custom made both the CPU and GPU, and built them to play off each other in such an efficient way. And if anyone thinks the A series chips are going to stay in iOS devices then that’s a very short sighted way of thinking. I could easily see a 12 inch MacBook using a A12 or A13 chip in the future. I really don’t think it’s that far off. iOS devices extremely under utilize a A series processor. I would love to see what MacOS could do with one.

Me too. Even 10.0.1 on the iPhone 7 would run circles around the 8 and it's delayed home button timing of closing apps.

For some odd reason in iOS 11 they introduced a half second lag on the capacitive button (when closing apps) whereas in iOS 10.0.1-10.3.3 the button responds instantly to start the close animation when you hit the home button.

I’m honestly blown away by the difference in speed and my 7+ was still on 10.3.3. I have never noticed the home button lag people have talked about at all. If I click an app and then click the home button it immediately goes back to the home screen. Even tested it with the new phone on iOS 11 compared to the old phone on 10.3.3 and I couldn’t seen any lag whatsoever

I also saw lots of issues right when I first installed ios11(on my 7+) but they seem to get better.
I don't understand why it gets better can someone explain it?
Catche?
Does the phone somehow learn animations and other things over time better?
I would think it shouldn't get better as it should stay the exact same till an update but first 10 minutes I saw lots of frame rate issues. animation issues.

I like many others just upgraded to the 8+ since I am on the IUP. Might as well pay monthly for the newer model with some added benefits (camera, truetone, qi charge) and look (glass back I really
like). I really didn’t think anything of the speed but having been on ios11 on my 7 plus and now on the 8 plus it just feels way faster, yes I had wiped my phone 7 plus and set up as a new iPhone with the latest IOS 11 GM release so it wasn’t cluttered etc.

My theory is after the software install, there are a lot of background things that need to sync up. It should vary by how many apps people have installed. I think this is the reason for lower battery life and choppy animations right after an install. I usually give everything 30 mins to an hour to sync. Then fully charge the phone, then restart the phone, then see what happens. I've had no issues with iOS 11 after I did it.
