For several betas now (currently on b8) I've noticed my typing appears to be much worse on iOS26. But then I reverted to iOS 18 and suddenly my typing was better, and I realized that iOS26 appears to skip key presses, or has altered sensitivity, it wasn't me!

I've pinpointed that this only happens in the "old" keyboard (i.e. NOT the one which has "A" on the bottom left of the space bar) - so on most non Apple apps.

For example, if I type "Hey man, how's it going man", the last "n" in man will routinely just not work. Instead, it'll say "ma". It seems to happen most commonly with "n", and on the second time a word (e.g. "man") is in a sentence. It's almost as if the autocorrect goes into processing mode, and stops my keypress.

I'm typing worse since years. Don't know what happened and when exactly it happened, but at some point writing got quite a bit worse for me.

Hehe, I meant since iOS26. I feel as if on the "old" keyboard on iOS26 I have to press harder for the key to register... very strange.

I've really never accustomed to the touch keyboard. Swiping saves me somewhat, otherwise my typing speed on these is no better than those T9 keyboards!!

Initially on B3 when I first installed iOS 26 on my 14PM, typing was shocking. By around B6 things were back to ‘normal’ and no issues. I’d almost say that autocorrect is now working better than it was on iOS 18 but that could just be my mind after the terrible run on those first few betas.

In my case it aligned with a new iOS release, 17 would be my guess. My theory has been that Apple changed something about the way the keyboard guesses which "key" the user intended to tap, and my way of typing worked better with the previous logic.

Haven't tried iOS 26 so can't say if it's going fix the issue (for me) or make it worse.

This. I can't place it exactly either, but jesus christ it's been so much worse since that change.

Many years ago, i'm talking like iPhone4 days, i used to be able to type really fast in text messages, but as the new devices came out I noticed that it was hard to type as accurately anymore. Either i'm getting older or Apple has implemented some sort of compensation for when your right on the edge of a key, it tries to predict what you actually wanted to press, and then presses the nearest key instead. That is my guess anyway.. Auto-correct also doesn't help either!

They adjusted the keyboard keys spacing. It's not much but it's enough to screw up the muscle memory. Biggest one for me is typing and finding I now have a period between.every.single.word. Or as I am trying to type 9, I hit backspace and delete it instead. Those are my two biggest issues.

I won't mention how terrible auto correct is. Taking a correct word and changing it to something that makes 0 sense.
