Is anyone heading to the store later than 4pm?

I won't be able to get to Target until nearly 7pm tonight, but I'm going to give it a try. If not, I have one on order from Apple store.

I'm leaving work at 4PM in NYC to head to NJ. This will definitely be interesting.

Last year on launch day I went to the apple store just to demo one assuming they would be sold out. Picked one up at about 8:30 PM - no line but the store was crowded. They did not have all sizes by that time though. Im in line now - something feels different this year. We will see.

WalMart - Sterling, Fair Oaks
Best Buy - Fair Oaks, Sterling
Apple Store - Reston (or, Tysons if I wanted to drive)

Can't get to a physical location until 5. Not sure where to go quite yet.

Same deal here in Portland, Oregon. Within five miles of my house:

3 Apple Stores
3 Best Buys
2 Targets

No WalMart.

I find this "calling around" thing hilarious. It's ironic that people carp about the price of Apple products and then engage in this kind of behavior. Guess what? Someone on Apple's dime has to answer hundreds if not thousands of calls at each location that go something like this:

"Hi! I was just checking to see if you have iPads in stock."

"No."

"Okay, thanks!"

That costs Apple money and they pass that cost on to you.

Please tell me how's it any different than wasting my time driving around all over the place to have an employee tell me the same thing in person when I walk into a store? They are a retail store, they have a phone, ergo, they should be prepared to take inquiries via the phone.

I would love it if these stores would provide inventory status online, Apple's done it before, but for whatever reason they're not doing them now.
