I am making a summer project out of dual-booting my G4 PowerBook wiht OS X and Ubuntu. I downloaded and burned the Fiesty PowerPC ISO. The live CD is awesome. I really really want to make this happen.

I had tried installing Ubuntu back in the Edgy days, but it just wouldn't work properly. The trackpad wasn't working right, my wireless card wouldn't work (damn you Broadcom)...

Has anyone installed Fiesty and have it working on thier G4 PowerBook?

If it works for the LiveCD, I don't see what problems it would have installed on the hard drive. I use Ubuntu Feisty on my PC and it's great, though no replacement for OS X.

I will be once I sort out my disk partitioning. Unfortunately when I repartitioned the HD I put the OSX partition second, which means Ubuntu won't install in a dual-boot installation. I can confirm that the Live CD works extremely well, although it doesn't have the Airport Extreme driver installed by default. That requires a full install and a bit of tweaking.

BTW it's 7.04, not 7.4, afaik...

I used the live CD on an iBook... most things worked, although it did not seem to support putting the computer to sleep, at least by default. That would be a fairly major obstacle to me. However, from threads on the Ubuntu forums, it seems that sleep is at least supposed to be available on PPC Mac notebooks.

You might look at something like this:

Here's a more detailed one about experiences on a TiBook:

Yep, I got it up and running with my 12" Powerbook. The sleep issue is caused by a lack of compatibility with the Nvidia graphics card. Apparently if you have the more recent PB's with ATI chips then sleep is supported accordingly.

I run Feisty on my Tibook G4. Works great. Sleep, wireless, everything. Yeah, post in the ubuntuforums PPC section. Lots of info there.

it really bugs me that they moved PPC support to community support. I mean, the latest PPC hardware is not even a year old
