My phone has a weird mark. Thinking of getting it changed. I have Apple care not sure how easy it is for Apple to exchange.

also with Apple care does Apple send you a new “refurbished” phone and then you send yours back?

In the Store they told me If I replace it now, I’d get a refurb one. Maybe they just wanted to scare me off.

Apple has 5,000 workers at their Elk Grove repair and refurb facility. They’ve had plenty of time to look at and rebox any returned iPhone 11 units since September 20.

No you will be getting white box no matter what. Not a retail unit.
Okay but with Apple care when you call the number. Do they send you a “new” refurbished phone and then you send back your old one? Or are you left without a phone for a while.

Ask for express replacement. They send you a device and then you send them your old one upon receipt of the replacement

White Box iPhones are good quality
They may have been returned for a BLemish or internal problem however they are all replaced with new outer cases and whatever part is not working if not an entirely new inside. So it’s better than refurbished but not new

I bet a large percentage of "refurbished" iPhone 11 series at this point are just customer returns. Most of them probably in pristine condition, so nothing to worry about.

Also, I highly doubt they replace the battery and enclosure on a phone that was used only for a couple of days and returned in perfect condition. That would be absurd and a huge waste of resources.

apple has a simple rule.

if a product has been sold at retail one time, if it is returned for any reason ("i didn't like the colour"), in the event that apple sells again that once-returned product, it is termed "refurbished".

within a few weeks after any launch, people who return a product (Phone 11 Pro / Max included) for some reason, and are granted a replacement are already, randomly, getting a refurbished product in return.

wording in the warranty allows this.

treat all posters with claims of getting (repeated !) replacement products not working and having to return it yet again, as suspicious.
apple's refurbished products are, in every way, just as good as 1st time sold products.
you could even make a case that since refurbished products are tested thoroughly in apple centers, rather than at the original factory in china or india, the products might have even more stable quality.

apple has been taken to court many times (in europe and china) with the equivalent of class-action suits with appellants claiming apple is giving them 2nd hand, used, product in warranty replacements.
apple never looses these lawsuits. read the warranty.

Apple also does not use the word refurbished for warranty replacements. "Refurbished" are only sold by Apple. Warranty replacements are called "Re-maunufacted"

Ain't nothing wrong will Apple refurb. Matter of fact they are as good as brand new ones and you can't tell the difference. If a refurb shows signs of wear and tear but is still A+ internally, Apple will simply swap the casing.

"Re-manufactured" because Apple swaps out some components if they are not up to standards, but they are essentially refurb.

I had to replace mine due to battery issues and can confirm they are brand new units after talking to Apple, and since it’s so early, they don’t usually do Refurbished.

Refurbished also doesn’t mean that the device is “used” or in “used condition” if anything refurbished is better than new as Apple automatically replaces the battery, outer glass, aluminum or steel chassis, and any component that was an issue. They then do more QC tests on refurbished units than new ones so they don’t lose any more money if the refurbished has damage and is returned.

Why did I think apple asked you to send your phone back first and then they would send you a new one with apple care?

is this not a thing? How do they test your phone is actually not working correctly?

do we really know if they don't do this?

I know from my local store that if a phone that is returned within the 14-day window it goes through in-store checks and if all is OK they are used as replacement devices or sent off to be reboxed and sealed as a refurb. They told me last year not to rush into buying my new Mac Mini and wait for the refurbs online as they would all be units that were returned within days, nothing actually ever wrong with them.
