With the sapphire screen it may look pretty intentional depending on how you do it - I accidentally dropped a sledgehammer on my watch - darn it!

Sapphire glass is actually not stronger then regular glass which is partly why they use the regular stuff on the sport watches. Sapphire can shatter easier. Sapphire is just stronger against scratches.

I agree with this approach. I have AppleCare on my Macbook Pro, but not on devices like an Apple Watch. Keep in mind that there's a fee for seeking a repair under the accidental damage. I don't judge people who get it. I get that. I'm just not one to get in on it.

But to fix the watch it’s $299 vs $150 or some odd if you include the $79 for Apple care and $69 for the fee. For the second claim it would be $220 instead of $600 for two claims without it.

I put Apple Care on my Series 0 SS w/Sapphire. Normally I would skip AC on something like the watch but it was new and I wasn’t sure how durable it would be. Especially since I have a habit of hitting my watch on stuff.

I have hit the screen of my watch countless times over the last 3 years and it hasn’t even a scratch on it. The latest time was last month in Germany on a tour of a cathedral. I hit my watch face on a door handle exiting so hard I thought my wrist was broken. Thought the screen was cracked for sure. But it was fine after I wiped it off.

I would skip it a second time around.

i think it's necessary 'cause it's quite common to hit the wrist/hand against objects... more than you know before owning the AW :)

also if you fall down there is high chance to damage the watch.

the watch itself could also fall while changing bands (it seems stupid, but it's my fear every time i do it.. especially i think with loop bands that don't allow you to hold the watch comfortably when pressing the release buttons)

but this is my first AW, i have no data relevant to the actual resistence of the watch... maybe listen to those who have owned it for years...

I don't buy extended warranties. And I've saved thousands of dollars over my lifetime.

I have definitely saved enough by not buying AppleCare+ on anything me and my wife have bought from Apple since it was introduced in 2011:

I know I mentioned it many times already, but the Apple Watch is the one product I would suggest Apple care for. The obvious answer being because our wrists are constantly moving and we inadvertently hit things when we don’t intend to, that’s when most mistakes happen, and then Apple quotes the repair fee, and then you have the customer regretting that they didn’t purchase AppleCare that would help cover the costs.

Totally agree, especially with the old editions...!

If you plan on keeping the device for two years, are prone to dropping your device, or just like the comfort of knowing you can get technical help no matter how long you’ve had your phone, then AppleCare might be worth the extra dough.

My wife and I both purchased new aluminum Apple Watches and got Apple Care for both of them, primarily because we know the glass isn't nearly as strong. For me, the price is worth it to know I can just replace it for any reason if the screen breaks.

Congratulations? I didn’t buy it for my X but thank god j bought it for my 6 plus . Destroyed the phone like 4 times and had to pay $150 to fix the screen two of those times. That’s why I went to the 7 instead of the 7 plus.

Yes the cost to fix the screen with Apple care two times is less then the cost to fix it without it one time.

I got my SS SB series 4 last week. It's the first Apple Watch I've thought that I might keep for longer than a year. I think you get 60 days to decide to take AppleCare + or not. I think if you're keeping your watch for longer than a year it might be worth it. I get it on my iPhone's that I upgrade every year. I just cash in the AC+ and put it towards the new phone.

I tend to get apple care for every apple device I own besides the phone, but the watch is the only one I had to use due to damage. I am very careful with my devices, but I was in an accident while working that was beyond my control that led to the face of my watch being sheared off. Luckily my phone that was in my pocket was ok (both made off much better then I). If I had to pick one device to get Apple Care on it would be the watch due to its exposure. Some things are out of your control, that's why you get insurance.
