So as we all know there won’t be a 14 mini, I been seeing that the “se” is going to become the new mini but also hearing it taking the iphone 11 body? But that’s not the Same mini that we have now…

Anyone have any info on such topic ?

Apple would be insane to try again.

The SE relies on a design that has achieved economies of scale. The XR and 11 were the best selling smartphones in the world. The mini never achieved that scale. There are a number of technical and cost reasons why the SE will never be based on the mini.

Such as?

The SE likely sold amazingly because of the price, not because of the design nor features, short of iOS.

The mini requires an expensive stacked logic board in order to accommodate a reasonable battery size. The entire chassis would also need to be redesigned to accommodate a thicker LCD.

I agree the SE is targeted at price sensitive buyers. For reasons above, I don't think there's any chance Apple will rebrand the mini as an SE.

I don't think they would be insane because at some point Apple will run out of old tech for SE & iPad's or it will costs too much just to maintain these older style of devices. Once Apple deems in cost effective they'll get rid of the touchID and bezels all together. Hopefully once that's achieved Apple will have figured out faceID on MacOS devices.

They’re definitely not done releasing smaller iPhones. Coming from an 11 to an SE.. I’m so much happier to have the smaller and lighter form factor back, and I know I’m not alone. I’m using the iPhone more than I have in years.. and I think the number of people who are going to get tired of lugging around large smartphones will continue to grow.

It’s a wait and see some said there will be no 13 mini so let’s see what apple does. I believe they will make a 14 mini.

If you believe that you must be new to how iPhone rumor mill works... The sizes/shapes that have been published lately (6.1" and 6.7" in plain and Pro flavors) is what we will see in the fall.

The question is whether the mini will be repurposed for the SE, and this is where speculation is possible.

I for one hope it happens, as the mini is too good of a form factor to just throw away, it just wasn't priced right.

Well, not here. My wife carries around an iPhone 11 Pro Max AND her Google Pixel 3a XL. I carry my 11 Pro Max AND my 6s+.

That's both of us, two large phones carried simultaneously. In public.

I believe they are definitely done with a higher end one until a folding phone comes along. At which point, is that big size or mini size?

The $329 iPad uses the same parts as the iPad Air (2013). There is plenty of old tech available to use.

Next step is simply moving Touch ID to the power button. Bezels will eventually go, but it'll be thicker than regular iPhones to avoid cannibalization. That's why we're hearing rumors of 5.7-inch display in the XR/11 chassis for the next SE.

I would say it’s quite unusual for a person to be carrying two very large mobiles phones at once though. I’ve got two phones, an iPhone 11 for work and an iPhone 12 for personal use. I got tired pretty quickly of having both and the 11 hasn’t been charged for nearly 2 months now. It’s not easy carrying that bulk about and thankfully neither are the Max size devices.

Excuse me, who said "there will be no 13 mini"? Short after the launch of the iPhone 12 lineup, we already knew a 13 mini was coming along with the 6,1" regular iPhone 13 and the two iPhone 13 Pro. And shortly after, the 13 wasn't even released, we knew that the iPhone 14 lineup was essentially a 6.1", and a 6.7" regular iPhone 14, a 6.1" and a 6.7" iPhone 14 Pro.

We know all that, thanks to leaks and reports, for almost two years. Sure, there's always some "believer" that, despite having the CAD files and the glass pictures will say "nah, there will be a 14 mini", but rest assured, the 13 mini is the last of its kind. That's why I decided to buy one.

Also, I very much agree with what @JPack said above. Sadly, I don't think the next SE will inherit the iPhone mini design. So yeah, buy one while you can.

I suspect Apple will continue to sell the 13 mini next year (just like they’re still selling the 12 mini today). I would wait until fall to make your upgrade decision. If they continue selling the 13 mini, then you have more time to stretch it out. If they stop selling it, hurry and get one then (stores/retailers and carriers should still have some until they run out).

Well, I'm generally in Dickies cargo shorts or pants. There's a side pocket where my wallet goes (I use one of those Ridge wallets). That leaves two pockets in the back (front pockets are for other stuff).

Both phones fit pretty well in the rear pockets. And no, I don't sit down on them either. In the car they go in a specific spot and at home they go in a specific spot. Restaurants, other places, etc, they get set down somewhere.

My wife has a dual phone belt holster (she uses cases). She's a teacher and the type of kids she deals with like to try and take her phones. A few times where they almost jimmied them out of her pockets and she got the holster thing.

Oh yeah…there was a time I was carrying around two 17" PowerBook G4s in one shoulder bag. AND my phone. That eventually became one 17" PowerBook G4 and a 17" MacBook Pro.

So, two large phones, not really a big deal to me. ;)

The 12 and 13 mini will remain in the lineup for this year at reduced price.

As for the SE, at this point, I have a feeling that Apple will keep using that old chassis design and drag it for another few years. It’s so Apple now to separate and keep their entry level model as old looking as possible (iPhone SE, base iPad, Apple Watch S3) to entice user to spend more for the mid tier models (iPhone 11/12, iPad Air, Apple Watch SE).

Like many have said before, the next SE may very well be rocking the body of the Mini, probably with Liquid Retina or perhaps OLED with a price bump.

Prices come down all the time, and I think it is also time for Apple to switch to OLED in their low end model, even price wise, so I hedge my bet on the mini-chassis. At least I really hope they don't go with the XR design, as I always found it so clumsy due to the wide bezels.

I’m more a smart trousers for work and a slim chino/jeans sort of guy to be honest lol. I hated the size of the 8 Plus I used to own because it felt like I had an iPad in my pocket. I know phablet phones work for some people though and the market is strong, so it’s nice to have choice. I do think the Mini was perhaps a very small market by comparison as most consumers now seem to have adapted to 6.1” and larger phones.

When my wife and I were first looking for cellphones in 1999, there was this little flip phone for sale that my wife really liked, but I did not get. I could just see myself losing that thing it was so small.

I like bigger phones because I like screen real estate. I'm a two handed user anyway and I cannot walk and chew gum at the same time so trying to one hand a phone, even smaller phones is not my thing.

There is a point though. I saw a guy once with what looked like a tablet the size of an iPad Mini held to his ear for a conversation. Yeah, that's too big. Hopefully, Apple continues to offer choices.

Yeah, I’m not sure how big or small the market is, but the SE likely makes the Mini’s market smaller. If Apple made a budget friendly 6.7” iPhone, it would take some sales from the Pro Max models, too.

Pretty much, yeah. The refreshed SE, plus lower prices on older 6.1" handsets have all but crowded it out IMO
