Is Apple Doomed?

I wouldn't say as a company that they are doomed but in the smartphone market, they will notice a huge migration to phones with much larger screens. Consumers are fed up with the every other year intro of an "S" series phone with only minor upgrades. All the other companies, let me repeat, All the other companies make major releases and improvements once a year. Apple ignores this and therefore will no longer be innovative with smartphone devices. Its a shame but their arrogance knows no bounds!!!!!!:(

I personally do not want a larger screen. 3.5 is perfect in my opinion. I don't like knowing I have a cell phone in my pocket and I certainly don't want a tablet sized phone in my pocket.

As for Samsung who cares? I've owned several of their phones and never again. I prefer my battery to last more than 15 minutes 3 months after purchase.

I wouldn't say doomed but their market share I think will drop. Many people want a larger screen or at least think they do. Many, not all. But many is enough to hurt them. Lots of people, like me, felt stuck in the iTunes market so they didn't dare get out of their iPhone but now with many homes having multiple i-devices, users don't feel they are losing quite as much if they switch their phone to Android or something else.

I'll go back to iPhone if the screen gets bigger. I won't if it doesn't.

Rubbish - I don't want a phone with a larger screen, I personally want a phone that fits easily in my pocket.

Some users would prefer a phone with a larger screen I will agree. Last time I looked Apple has the top spot of smartphone sales by supplier, so clearly the idea that all, or even most smartphone buyers want a larger screen is not based in fact.

It's sarcasm. Just tired if the flood of larger screen topics on here and everyone who actually thinks that the massive screen phones are the reason Android has the majority of the market when in reality it's the cheap phones running 2.2 in poorer countries that contribute the majority if that market share.

Note 2 fits perfectly in my pocket, and after 4.5 months of use the battery last just under 38 hours.

I personally think the 4S is the perfect sized phone, even the 5 is pushing it to me.. Samsung's phones are just ridiculous...

but i suppose you can't please everyone...

Apple has $137bn in the bank. Apple and Doomed are two word that shouldn't even exist in the same sentence.

iOS does need some work however. I also think they could go to 768p/4.3 inches screen and shrink their bezel.

There are 3 types of smartphone users:
1. Those wanting big screens (aka ~5")
2. Those wanting small screens (aka ~3.5-4")
3. Those who don't care about the screen size

Seriously, you can't produce a single phone to please every customer. The best solution: make both types of phones (like Samsung GS vs Note).

well, everyone has his own like, not all the people like the large screen phones, i do not like these big ones, compared to iPhone 5, i prefer the screen size of iPhone 4s.

Is Apple doomed if the company doesnt release a larger iPhone?
No. They might end up stuck with the market segment that only wants a smaller screen or doesn't care about screen size but they're certainly not "doomed".

Stock price cut in half, every other thread on this forum is about Samsung ... Doomed is putting it mildly.

1) 450 =/= 700/2
2) still the second most valuable company in the world, so let's keep some perspective
3) the abundance of Samsung threads is proof of an abundance of trolls (cough cough), not proof of any objective facts about apple

But both of those phones are in the 5+ inch segment

I fear that if Apple is taking their time in releasing the larger phone, like say it gets delayed to next year. I believe that Samsung will get even stronger. Apple needs to stop the bleeding asap and stop Samsung from acummulating so much money!

LOL

Short answer? No.

Long answer? No.

Dear Apple,

Please make Samsung suffer this year by releasing: 4" and 5" iPhone 5S, plus a lower-priced 4.5" iPhone compatible with China Mobile's TD LTE network.

I used to feel that a larger screen was a given...After using larger screens (HTC sensation, GS3, LG G2X) and then my iPhone 4s, I can say that a small screen is best for a phone since I have an Ipad. I drive ALOT and use my phone while driving. (No, I dont text while driving, but use maps and make calls). Having a small, compact, size is great. When I need to actually read something, I pull out my iPad.

Apple is doomed if they dont start making Jailbreak apps STOCK apps...I plan to leave iOS for the HTC ONE once Sprint has it available. I wont like the 4.7" screen, but hate the idea of being stuck with my 4s until the iPhone 5s gets jailbroken. (Wont be going to the iPhone 5). Who the hell knows when that will (if even) happen? Most Jailbroken apps are stock features of Android.

Matt

I just upgraded to the iPhone 5 from a 4s. Personally, I like the horizontal keyboard spacing and the slightly snappier A6 chip and LTE. However, I prefer the overall size of the 4s.

I am fine with my combination of the iPhone 5 Nd iPad 3. Don't want a larger phone or a smaller iPad.

The smartphone market is maturing. Less innovation. Apple is fragmenting its product line, again, ala John Scully era. IMHO.

But both of those phones are in the 5+ inch segment

That's why I didn't specifically say which Note and which S. GS1-2-3 have smaller screens (<4.8") than the newest version. Anyway, my point is that Apple should make different products (like iPhone and iPhone Mini) to cater for different tastes and preferences.

I strong Samsung does not mean doom and gloom for Apple. In fact a strong Samsung is good for Apple consumers as it forces apple to be more inventive with their products (hopefully).

Companies this large don't die overnight. Look at how long rim has been struggling. Nothing apple does within the next few years will mean their doom. A culmination of their decisions over the next few years certainly could mean this though.

Hi.....

Your taglines was the most interesting to me

////I use iOS and Android daily and, more recently, Windows Phone 8. If what I say upsets you, it's probably because of your brand loyalty./////

which of these are handhelds ?

IF so is the iOS faster on web and mail or is it the Android ? I am talking of speed on a mobile phone or a phablet or tablet ...NOT against traditional Win PCs

TIA

You have really large pockets :)

We all know how the S4 was a major release

It's not just the lack of a larger phone,
the Samsung Galaxy Ace II-x is selling for $150 outright here,
the Nexus 4 for $300 outright unlocked.
So they are losing sales on price in the 4" category as well.

I still feel even the dated iOS system tops any Android desert,
but given Apple's small screen sizes and much higher prices ,
It's easy to see how Android activations are so high.

Stop the bleeding? Year to year increase in unit sold isn't bleeding.

If Apple wants to increase marketshare, I bet having a cheaper iPhone would accomplish that much better than a bigger iPhone. A cheaper iPhone would do wonders for the iPhone marketshare in China and India, where most people can't afford the price of the current iPhone.

Doom ?? I doubt it. Don't forget its not that easy to reinvent a smartphone.
Every company has its peak and then stabilizes. Some go down in popularity, while others disappear from the radar. Some perfect examples are Sony, Panasonic, Nokia, Blackberry and the list goes on and on.
Only time will tell if Apple remains as popular as it is today.

Yeah, but Apple is pretty much THE reason why those companies are no longer viable smartphone competitors. They were just coasting along and didn't have the resources to recover. It's only now that the remaining competition is mounting a serious challenge, and mostly because it's do or die time for them.

You're spot on, has Apple really lost touch with reality?

People have been complaining about how dated the iOS looks and how tiny the iPhone 5 screen is. Are they even listening to us?

My handhelds I assume you mean phones? I ask because these os's are basically all handheld OS's.

iOS mail, IMO, is pretty terrible. Sorting through mail is just... Bad. On top of that, gmail accounts no longer get push. Not apples fault, but I'm answering the question truthful.

With web, on android you load all the flash crap. Of you disable this, I find the experience quite similar. Out of the box, windows phone is also very fast. That said, I don't like bookmarks and such. I'd say safari is the best all around browser for this reason.
