The only reason iOS 18 updates are still available is because WebKit had a critical vulnerability that was being actively exploited. They have now made it so WebKit can be patched without an entire OS update in iOS 26, so having two update options is unlikely to happen again for a long while.

I don't follow. You showed screenshots for iOS 18 and iOS 26 updates with no context. Maybe elaborate on what you want/don't want to see in the next update?

I was trying to state that when iOS 27 comes out, you won't see more than one choice any longer. There will only be iOS 27 because the security issues have been patched. Having two choices will only be an option if there is another catastrophic security issue.

Usually when a major update comes out (iOS 27), it is usually not prominent and hidden under "Also Available" and people have a choice to update to the current .7 release (iOS 26.7) and that is prominent. The option locations are eventually reversed. My proposal is making them both prominent at the same time for easier accessibility, rather than requiring accessing another menu.

Ehhh....

For the VAST majority of users, seeing the newest version is what they will want to see and install. So yeah, ultimately, it makes sense for the new version to be "prominently" displayed and any alternative updates to be under a link.

If someone actively WANTS to be on an older version, specifically... they'll know the procedure and how to follow it. If they don't actively want that, there's no sense confusing them with old updates.
