I always buy it (maybe foolishly) on PC purchases etc....

I do so b/c a friend of mines power chord port once broke and it paid for itself with just that one incident. And with the portability of these things, who knows what could go wrong in 3 years.

Must say that my iPhone 3 hasn't needed anything!

Is the Squaretrade warranty worth it?

I think that depends on your use. If it's only going to be used in your home, or home/office with a strong bag protecting in between, and you don't normally damage your electronics, then maybe there's no point.

If you're going to be carrying it around. Using it outside. Or if you ever drop/break your electronics, it's worth it. plus, you can get your full money back for a while (can't remember if it's 1 month or 3).

I got it because I'm going to take the ipad everywhere and $72 will always be the cheapest way to replace the screen (no way apple would charge less) AND the warranty is transferable and I'm planning on selling my iPad 2 next year to help fund the iPad 3.

This is anecdotal and an unfounded generalization. Apple is known for great service.

um, it's an opinion. That's why I wrote "I've noticed" as in me, personally, seeing apple deal with me, other customers, and family and friends when they have apple care vs when they don't. Thus it is intentionally anecdotal and not at all unfounded.

My take on extended warranties for electronics, appliances etc. has always been as follows:

In the long run I'd spend WAY more buying those for all my gadgets etc. than I do replacing the few things that break outside of manufacturers warranty AND before I was ready to upgrade.

So just not worth it to me.

Something with accidental damage may be worth it if you have kids whole be using the iPad etc. though since it is a fragile device and one person already posted about their toddler dropping there's and breaking it.

You just want to affirm your AppleCare expenditure.

Yes squaretrade covers spills, drops, etc. You can get either a 2 year or 3 year warranty. There's lots of 20% off codes around the web but you get 40% off if you order it for your ipad before the end of the day today (you don't have to physically have your ipad yet but when you submit a claim they'll want proof of purchase (which you can send to them in advance if you don't want to hold on to the receipt) and it has to match up with what you told them when you bought it. (what you bought, who from, etc))

The code is ipad40

AWESOME! Thanks so much!
